Oliver's POV

I attempted at sneaking into the precinct without getting detected by the Captain but unfortunately my sneaking skills early in the morning after the night I drank too much aren't as good as they normally are, and the normal still isn't very good.

"Dukes." I flinched and curled my lips at the husky voice of my boss. I slowly turned around smiled a little embarrassed.

"Sir-" He was holding a few files in his hand and looking at his watch, he seemed off like his mind was occupied on something else.

"You're late... again." I looked around for my partner but couldn't find him.

"I can explain." The Captain looked up and started walking past me, I followed him.

"There's no need, your partner already told me you were dropping off your sister at school." I mentally noted that I owed Warren a beer.

"Uh, y-yes sir I was." I stammered trying to play it off. The Captain didn't catch the stutter, I wondered what was taking up his thoughts.

"That's good, you should probably do that for the next few days or so." I paused my walking and looked at him confused.

"Sir?" The Captain stopped walking and turned around to face Oliver with a serious face.

"There is a murderer out on the loose, it would be safer if you drove Melody to school until we find him."

"Murderer?" The Captain nodded.

"We are briefing about it right now." I walked with the Captain to the briefing room where my goofy partner Warren Lee was. His normal smiling and silly look on his face was now a very grim. I leaned against a table next to him and asked,

"What's going on?"

"A kid Melody's age was brutally murdered last night in an alley four blocks from the store Manon works at." My eyes widened, Manon was Warren's girlfriend and she worked at a popular store.

"This is Brandon Smith." I looked up front where the Captain was, the older man put a pictures of the victim on the board. The officers and the two detectives in the room groaned and looked away, one officer had to leave the room. It was a young teen, his eyes were still open but his face was splattered with his blood. The full body picture is really what hit my stomach. His entire torso was torn open and none of his organs were in his body, they were either sprayed against the brick walls of the alley or on the gravel. Everything within three feet of his body was the color crimson.

"He was a senior at Northwestern High school and was the captain of the school's basket ball team." I felt guilty, at such a young age his future was taken away from him. "His girlfriend says that he went out at about 10:45 pm to get some stuff at the store but never returned. Some joggers passed by the body at 6:00 am today."

"Does he have any enemies?" Warren asked.

"The girlfriend says not really, he was a well known jock at their school. He was even friends with kids from other schools."

"I want everyone on patrol to be on the lookout for any suspicious figures." The officers in the room nodded and headed out while the Detectives stayed inside to hear their orders for their new case. Warren and I were the best detectives probably in the whole state of Michigan, we were once chosen by the FBI to work a case with them a few months ago and just last week we found the suspect responsible for seven murders. I am now realizing how much time off we don't get because of all these cases, my mind starts to drift to my sister. I wonder how she's doing?

"Detectives." The Captain spoke, we both got up from the desk and walked to the front of the room where our higher up was. Warren swallowed the lump in his throat while I sighed heavily.
