Oliver POV
We drove to the crime sight quietly, the whole town looked quieter than usual. The word about Brandon must've spread, most likely spooked the whole town. Crime here has started to rise and everyone is starting to get scared.
"We're almost there." Warren spoke up startling me out of my thoughts. "Well you're jumpy today."
"I've had a hell of a night."
"Well you're having a hell of a morning."
"Whatever." I replied leaning my head back.
"Is that what you were thinking when you couldn't find the right pair to that navy blue sock?" My eyebrows furrowed, I leaned forward and pulled my pants up a little to take a look at my apparent mismatched socks. When I saw that I had one navy blue sock and a light brown one I groaned out loud and leaned back roughly. Warren laughed at me while I muttered curse words at myself and him. Warren parked the car close to the crime scene and we both got out. The both of us were greeted by one of the CSI guys.
"Detectives."
"Hey, Grayson." I replied.
"What do you have for us?" Warren asked.
"Well, something that will upset your stomach."
"It's a good thing I didn't eat breakfast." Warren replied, but it sounded like he was talking to himself. Grayson turned around and beckoned us to follow him to where the body is. The smell hit us as soon as we stepped foot in the alley. It was a foul stench, but it is also a very familiar odor. Both Warren and I have had a whiff at the smell of death and blood, but this was totally different. It reeked of not just blood and a dead body, but of hatred and rage. The first organ I saw was a kidney, Warren saw parts of a large intestine splatted on the wall. When we were further in we saw more organs and the body cut open messily. The stench got stronger and nastier, it was almost unbearable to handle. I put my hand over my face to mask my nose, I felt like I was going to get a nosebleed from this awful smell. I looked over at Warren, he was just about ready to throw up his own organs.
"Hey, we've seen enough human parts splattered. I don't want to see yours next." Warren glared at me.
"I would laugh but this sight is too revolting." Grayson said putting his gloved hands on his waist.
"This is overkill." Warren spoke up.
"What was the cause of death? I mean, could you figure that out?" I asked.
"Yeah, the victim died due to blood loss. I'm afraid to say that he didn't die until his lungs or heart was ripped out."
"He was alive during the majority of this?" I asked.
"Yeah, the stab markings to the lungs and heart were the most recent. Whoever did this wanted him to suffer."
"Jesus, fuck I can't take the smell." Warren took out a small Vicks container and put the gel in his nostrils. I gladly took some because I also could no longer take that rotting smell.
"Who would attack this boy, according to the girlfriend he was a nice kid. No one really complained about him."
"His record is clean as well." I added. "This couldn't have been easy to do, he is about what, 6'3? A jock?"
"Unless he was taken by surprise." Warren suggested.
"Or a team." My partner and I nodded at Grayson's suggestion.
"We should ask the high school students some more questions. Let's get names of his basketball teammates and his friends. Let's also get names of his girlfriend's friends." I spoke up.
