Chapter 2:
Pete has to catch can when he nearly falls to the ground.
“Shall I call the cookoo car to come pick her up?” asks Zoe.
I knew I shouldn’t have even brought it up. They already thought I was weird enough. What I basically asked was, “Hey guys, want to come with me to my imaginary world?” I would have been creeped out myself if someone were to ask me that. What are they supposed to say? Yes?
Pete must’ve seen the embarrassment in my face and the pleading in my eyes, because what he said kind of threw me off.
“Guys come on! She’s serious! It may sound a bit crazy but…” he scratched is head as if to try to think of an explanation. “when has Piper ever asked anything from us--“
“Homework help!” Jax blurts out as Cam quickly covers his hand over Jax’s mouth.
Pete continues. “True, but what I’m trying to say is that it’s the least we can do to go with her. She’s always been there for us when we needed something.”
“Yeah,” Cam agreed. “this can be fun if we want it to be.”
“Are you guys out of your minds?” Zoe yells. “You guys are agreeing to go help Piper find a place that doesn’t even exist.” She’s right.
“Yeah she’s got a point there.” says Jax.
“Jax,” begins Pete. “If you go with us, I promise that you will be supplied with enough hair products to last the whole trip. Courtesy of Piper and I. Right Piper?”
I give him a “nice save” look. But if this is what it takes, why not? “Yeah of course.”
“Then I’m in!” he smiled.
“WHAT?” screams Zoe. “You’re going to let them bribe you with hair products? Are you an idiot?”
“Yes ma’am!”
“Zoe look,” I start off. “I really need you for this. You have the most logic out of this whole group, and—“
“Yes I know.” Zoe interrupts. “That’s why I’m saying that if Piper should be going anywhere, it’s the mental hospital.
This is not going to be easy.
“Please Zoe! We won’t be gone for long! Just a couple of days. I will never ask anything big of you again. Would you rather hear me bitch about the dream for the rest of my life?”
Zoe opens her mouth as she’s about to make a smart remark, but then she hesitates. It takes a minute for her to reply. “Alright.”
I run up to give her a hug that I know she will hate--
“But under these conditions!”
Oh boy.
“I’ll give her five days to find her little imaginary place. Then we go home. We are not leaving this country. And we ARE NOT renting a rocket ship. I repeat, NO ROCKETSHIP! Do I make myself clear?”
“THANK YOU SO MUCH!” I scream so loud that practically the whole school goes silent.
“Wait.” Cam says. “I can’t just leave Jordis alone with the gang and expect coming back to him alive!”
“He can stay at my place.” I offer. “He can chill with Jake. I’m sure my mom won’t mind.” She won’t. “She’ll probably be hung over anyways.” I mutter under my breath. “We can leave Friday night if that’s okay with everyone?” I offer. Everyone agrees.
