(Ace and Crystal are characters that belong to my very awesome friend bloodThief. :) Just thought I'd give credit)
Chapter 5:
Everyone got their fair amount of sleep last night but me. I couldn’t process everything that had happened yesterday at once. But then in the middle of the night something hit me. CAM JUST KILLED ANOTHER GUY! God knows what this could mean for him. How Cam slept last night, I don’t know. The thought of life in prison for him sent chills down my spine.
My excruciatingly loud cellphone alarm went off. Cam covered his ears. “Agh…Wha-what? I didn’t do it.” he mumbled half consciously.
“Cam, are you sure you’ll be able to drive today?” I asked. “Uh huh, yeah sure.” he stretched his arms backwards.
“No wait. You just can’t go out like that!” Pete warned.
“Why not?” pouted Cam
“You just murdered another guy for crying out loud!” Pete said, almost too harshly.
“Yeah, you don’t gotta remind me.” he replied wearily, kicking at the mats on the car floor.
“Look man,” he put a hand on Cam’s shoulder. “Don’t feel too bad about it. You did it for the right reason. You could’ve saved him from hurting someone else, or us.” He looked out the car window. “You just need a new look for yourself that’s all. You can’t afford to get noticed.”
“What are you guys gonna do?” Zoe snorted. “Dye his hair pink?” I really just want to throw a sock in her whiney ass mouth, literally. I don’t know what her problem is lately, but she’s been a real bitch to Jax and I. She and I used to be real close when we were younger. Ever since maybe about sixth grade she’s held some sort of grudge against me, and I don’t know why.
“OH MY GOD YES.” exclaimed Jax. The concerning thing is that I think he thought she was serious. I remembered our kiss last night. It’s hard to convince myself that I genuinely enjoyed it. After the kiss on the boat, I didn’t think there would ever be romance again between us. I just thought he was happy I wasn’t dead. I’ve always liked Pete a lot. I’ve liked him forever. I never really thought about being with Jax, but after last night, I questioned myself a bit.
“I’m not dying it pink.” He looked angrily at Zoe.
“Guys, I can shop for the stuff.” offers Jax.
“NO YOU WONT!” we all say in unison.
“Come on guys!” he said. “I know exactly where to find the things he would need for a cheap price. Just give me a chance!” He gives us a genuine puppy dog face.
“Is it like that damn Hair Glu place? I swear to God Himself that if it is, I will ruin you.” Pete says with a rueful look on his face.
“Well,” he answered. “not really.”
“I’ll go with him.” I say. Maybe time with him can cut some awkwardness between us, if there is any.
Zoe sighs. “Jace, would you please go with those two?”
“Sure.” He said.
“HEY!” I protest. “I can handle him myself!”
“I seriously doubt it.” She says. “If there’s anyone in this car who knows anything about fashion, it’s definitely not you two.” She rudely points her fingers and Jax and I.
The three of us walked a couple blocks until a couple turned into too many. “Do you even know where it is?” I asked Jax. “I think so.” He replied. “Oh look there it is!” We walked into this gothic looking department store that looked almost as much of a wreck as Hair Glu. Half of the racks were knocked down. There were clothes and empty boxes all over the floor. The place looked like a glamorous pigsty.
