Prim's Games Book 2

Chapter one

"Prim! Breakfast!" My older sister, Katniss, yells.

I moan and get out of bed. "Coming!"

I take a quick shower in our gigantic bathroom and dry my long blond hair. Then I get dressed in a dark blue sweater with a long black skirt and tights. As soon as I head downstairs I smell eggs and waffles.

"Mmm! Waffles!" I say.

"Hold on! Eat your eggs first!" Katniss says.

"Ugh. Fine." I moan.

"Where's mom?" I ask a few minutes later while I'm munching on my waffles.

Katniss sits down across from me.

"She went to get a few things from the market. She'll be back soon."

"Can you braid my hair?" I ask.

"Of course." She replies.

She divides my hair into two braids and when she's done I glance at the clock. 7:45!

"We have to go to school! We're going to be late!"

I jump up from my seat and grab my backpack.

"Katniss let's go!"

"Coming!" She replies.

The walk to school is pretty short and I get there right when the bell rings.

"Bye Prim. Wait for me after school." She says.

"Bye Katniss." I say and give her a kiss on the cheek.

I walk into my first class and see my friends sitting at our table.

"Prim!" My friend, Lucy, squeals.

"I haven't seen you in forever!" Says my other friend, Anna.

I laugh and give everyone a hug.

"Okay class, let's get started with the lesson." Says my Social Studies teacher, Ms. Waters.

I try to pay attention during the lesson, but my friends keep distracting me by laughing and giggling.

The rest of the school day drags on and on. When the bell rings I sigh in relief and walk out of the school building and wait for Katniss to come out. She's in 10th grade, so she's let out later than the 7th graders.

"Katniss!" I squeal as I see her walk out of the building. But then I see her talking to Peeta.

"Peeta!" I yell and run over to him. "I haven't seen you in forever!"

He picks me up and spins me around. "I've been busy. But you're welcome to come over anytime, since we live like 10 feet apart."

I laugh. "Same with you."

We walk home together to the Victor's Village, but then Katniss stops me in front of our house.

"Prim, I need to tell you something."

I notice Peeta scratching his neck.

"What?" I ask.

She blushes. "Well....umm...Peeta and I are now a couple."

"Katniss! That's amazing! I knew it would happen eventually." I give her a hug.

I narrow my eyes at Peeta. "But you better take good care of her."

They both laugh.

"Well, I need to get home. But I'll see both of you tomorrow!" Peeta says.

"Bye!" I yell.

Katniss and I walk inside.

"Prim, don't tell mom anything. I'll tell her myself." Katniss whispers.

"Okay." I reply.

"Mom! We're home!" Katniss yells.

My mother suddenly appears with an apron wrapped around her.

"Hello, dears. How was school?" She asks as I give her a hug.

"It was fun seeing my friends again." I say.

"You're going to miss school when you go on the victory tour, which is in a week." Katniss says.

I sigh. "I wish you could go with me."

"Me too." She says sadly.

"You should go your homework. I'll tell you when dinner is ready." Says my mother.

"Okay." I reply.

After 2 agonizing hours of 7th grade homework, my mother calls me for dinner.

I walk down the stairs and suddenly smell the delicious scent of my mother's baked chicken.

"Yum." I say.

"Oh, Prim, we invited Peeta over for dinner!" Katniss says excitedly.

"Yay!" I say. Just then the door bell rings.

"I'll get it!" Katniss screams.

"She's excited." Says my mother as she stands over the stove.

Then Peeta walks in with Katniss.

"Hi!" I say.

"What's up."

"Dinner."

He laughs.

"Okay, let's eat!" My mother says.

We all take a seat and dig into my mother delicious chicken. She's a great cook.

"I'm stuffed." I say.

"Ready for dessert?" Katniss says.

"Oh definitely!" I reply.

Katniss disappears into the kitchen and comes back in with a big chocolate cake.

"Chocolate!" I screech.

Everyone stares at me.

"Sorry." I mumble.

Katniss just laughs and gives me the first piece, making it big on purpose.

"Thank you." I say.

"Anything for you, Little Duck." She replies.

I giggle.

I dig into my chocolate cake, savoring the flavor, and quickly finish it.

After we all finish dessert, we're just talking and laughing.

"Mom. I have to tell you something." Katniss says.

"What is it dear?" She asks.

"Well....Peeta and I are dating!"

"Oh, that's wonderful Katniss." She says and kisses her head.

Katniss blushes and then I notice her holding Peeta's hand under the table.

"Prim, it's bedtime." Says my mother a while later.

"Already?" I ask.

She nods and I glance at the clock. It's already 9:30! Time sure does fly by.

"Okay. Goodnight." I say and kiss my mother and Katniss goodnight.

"Goodnight." They reply in unison.

"Bye Peeta!" I say and run upstairs to my large room. I change out of my school clothes and dress into a blue silk nightgown. I walk into the bathroom to brush my teeth and decide to leave my braid alone. Then I hop into my big pink bed and quickly fall asleep.
