Prim's Games Book 2

Chapter 20

The monkey bites my arm, and I scream in pain. The monkey's claws are now digging into my skin. I can see the others waking up, and they run towards me, but not before the monkey bites me again, this time in the leg. Finnick grabs his trident and stabs the monkey, who falls to the ground.

"Prim!" Katniss says and hugs me.

I moan in pain.

She takes a look at my wounds and gasps.

Just then, we see more monkeys running towards us. I grab my backpack and with my good arm I throw my knives at them. Thankfully, that distracts them, and we start running. Or at least, the others do. I can't even stand up.

"Prim!" Peeta yells.

He runs to me and throws me over his shoulder. My leg screams in pain every time it hits Peeta.

Once we get away from the monkeys, Peeta gently lays me down on the sand. Katniss kneels down next to me and looks through my backpack for something that will help. I've never felt so much pain before. Tears are spilling down my cheeks as the pain increases. My eyes are starting to close, and Katniss tells me to not close my eyes, for fear that they may not open again. But I can't help myself. She is screaming my name with tears streaming down her face. And that's when I black out.

When I wake up, the pain from my wounds is gone. I can see the bright blue sky. I try to sit up, but I'm immediately pushed back down.

"You need to rest, Prim. Those were some deep cuts." Katniss kisses my forehead.

"How long was I out?" I whisper.

"All night." She pauses. "I was so worried about you."

My stomach growls.

"Here." She laughs as she hands me a bread roll with cinnamon and some crab meat.

"Where'd you get the bread?" I ask.

"It's a sponsor gift." She replies. "We also got a medical kit for you."

"Yay!" I shriek.

"Woah, calm down." Katniss laughs.

"Can I see it?" I ask.

She nods and hands it to me. Once I open it I immediately clap in excitement, causing Katniss to laugh even harder. The medical kit contains plenty of bandages, painkillers, ointments, rubbing alcohol to clean our wounds, and vials of liquids.

"We need this stuff." I say.

Katniss nods in agreement.

"We have a plan." Beetee says as he walks over to me with the others.

"What?" I ask.

"See this?" He points to a large coil of wire in his hands.

"Yeah."

"Well, you, Johanna, and Katniss are going to get the coil of wire and wrap it around a tree at the top of the hill. This way, it'll electrocute anyone who steps into the water." Beetee explains.

"Okay. When do we get started?" I ask.

"At midnight. We should probably rest up to be prepared."

We all agree and snuggle up in our sleeping bags. Katniss kisses my forehead and I soon fall asleep.
