I quickly got up telling everyone I was fine. Alexis stopped fighting and pushed the other girl away as she helped me skate back to the bench. “Are you okay?” She inquired as we sat down. “I’m fine, just pissed. I could’ve easily made that goal.” I sighed. “At least they’re getting called for it.” She responded. I watched the game continue.
It went into overtime and when nobody scored within those five minutes, it was a shootout. “Max, are you alright with being third shooter?” Coach asked. “Of course!” I replied. “It will be Sarah, Alexis, and then you.” He explained. I nodded and watched as the Sarah shot wide, a Falcons player shot high, Alexis scored, and a Falcons player scored.
I was up and I was nervous. I stood in front of the puck and waited for the whistle. When the whistle was blown I began to skate. I dropped the puck and kicked it back up to the blade of my stick. I deked the goalie out and scored in the five hole. The horn went off and most of the team came from the bench and hugged me. I looked up to the audience to find that nobody was there. My smile quickly faded and I skated off.
I walked for five minutes before Alexis’s car pulled up beside me. “Need a ride?” She inquired. I nodded and threw my duffle into the back before sitting in the passenger’s seat. “Thanks.” I laughed. “It’s the least I could do for the person who got the GWG.” She replied.
I arrived back to my house, thanked Alexis for the ride, and went inside. My mom was obviously upset with me missing lunch. “Are you kidding?” I questioned. “No, I am not.” She responded. “I was at a hockey game that nobody decided to show up to!” I barked running up the stairs. I threw my bag onto my bed and sat down.
I heard a knock at the door and moaned not wanting anyone to enter. Tyson opened the door and sat on the bed next to me. “I can’t keep ignoring you and acting like it’s nothing.” He sighed. “Tyson, not now.” I responded.
“You always say that.”
“Because you always come at the worse times.”
“Well this is the only time we’ll be able to talk until we leave for the road trip to start our season.”
“What? You’re leaving so soon?”
“Yeah… Nobody told you?”
“They have their reasons… Just when are you leaving?”
“Tomorrow morning at five.”
“Awesome.”
“We need to work things out now.”
“We both have bigger things to worry about.”
“You’re on the top of my list right now.”
“Go back to your girlfriend and just leave me alone.”
“You can’t just do that.”
“Do what?”
“Shut people out. You always do this. Nobody knows the real you, and when they start to you just close yourself off to the world.”
“I don_”
“Don’t lie to me.”
“Tucker, he needs to leave.” I said. Tucker uncurled from the ball he was in on the floor and started to growl at Tyson and he sighed before walking out of my room.
