I'm Back

Chapter 16

Karas pov

"Are we there yet?" I ask again

"If you ask one more time I'm shoving you out" Mom laughs "Almost."
We park next to a forest "The forest?" I ask. Mom rolls her eyes "Patience child."

I leave my purse in the car and change into the converse mom brought. "Hurry"
"I'm coming." I run to catch up with her. She walks into a little path of trees, I don't question I just follow. I have to crouch so I don't get my hair stuck in branches, at the end of the 5 minute walk there's a fence.

"Wow, the view is lovely mom. Really makes me feel better." She gives me the mom look and rolls her eyes.

"Just climb the damn thing, will ya?" I put my hands up in defense. "All right. No need for hostility, we're all family here." I laugh. I use a tree for support and pull myself over the fence, I dust off my clothes and wait for mom to get over. I see mom land on her butt in the grass, I can't contain my laughter. "Oh my gosh." I finally get out through my laughs. Moms laughing with me as I help her up.

I wipe my tears and let out a laugh "phew, you're right mom this did cheer me up." She just laughs and grabs my hand and starts pulling me to God knows where.

I look around and it's beautiful. It's a rocky cliff right above the sea. It's absolutely gorgeous.

"Wow" I say and go to the edge. I sit down and let my legs dangle off the side of the cliff. Mom sits next to me but just sits cross cross.

"How'd you find this place?" I ask looking over at mom. "Your father and I used to come here when we were teenagers, we had just come from a party that got busted my some cops." She laughs "And we sure didn't want to be caught so we started running through the forest and climbed that fence and we found this place. It's been kind of our spot since then, we always kept it secret but I guess we can let you in on it too." She said smiling and pulled me into a side hug.

"Didn't know you guys were party animals." I say laughing "yeah we didn't really want to tell your brother and you, set a bad example." I turn my head at the mention of my brother.

"Speaking of Adam, he said he wanted to come visit soon." Mom said smiling "You haven't seen him in so long I figured you'd be excited." She said once she saw my sad face "why aren't you excited?"

I never told her how Adam would abuse me too. I never told that's why I wouldn't come home for holidays. I never told her that i couldn't even look him in the eye without my heart dropping. I never told her because I know the love she has for him. I mean that's her son.

"There's something I haven't told you, about when I was bullied at school." I said turning to her. "I don't want this to change your feelings about him, you can be mad but just don't hate him."

"Hate who, Adam? Why?" She asked. "He used to bully me too, half of all my bruises were from him. I never told you because he threatened me and I didn't want you to have any bad feeling about him because since him and I weren't close, I didn't want to mess that up for the whole family." I said with a few tears in my eyes.

Mom starts crying. "Mom please don't cry." I say hugging her

"I swear to God I am going to murder that boy. He told us he had no idea that was happening to you! He swore! He looked us in the eyes and swore!" She said crying into my shoulder.

"Mom please don't hate him, i've always been thinking that there has to be a reason why he did it. He and I used to be so close and for it to change all of a sudden just doesn't seem right to me. I want to hear his side of the story before I never speak to him again. I did need time to heal and that's why I never wanted to see him but I think I'm ready to hear what he has to say." I say to mom wiping away my tears.

"You're right, but he is still dead." Mom said getting up. I got up too and started walking back. "How are we going to get back over the fence?" I ask her. She stops.

I look around seeing if there's anything we can stand on. "Here's some decent sized rocks. I'm sure we can both pick one up." We go to it and pick it up. We struggle massively but he finally get it there. Mom climbs on it and I help her a bit but she's able to get over. I'm more flexible than her so I have an easier time. I make it over and we head back to the car

Once we get home I go up into my room since mom has to meet dad for a date. I get my phone out and see I have a few texts from Claire. Whoops.

C: Omg I followed Ash and they went to some random locker room
C: omg they're hooking up
C: dude this is insane answer

She sent a few pictures of them making out and undressing. Gross.

K: I'm so sorry! Was with mom! Call me!!!!

She calls "Oh my gosh. Is that why he said that we had a great time? Like that was the favor she's doing for him for saying that."

"Yeah but before that happened she was mad because you weren't at lunch today and said that he'll have to do it tomorrow and you can't keep avoiding lunch because she'll become suspicious." She's right.

"Well what should we do? We have the advantage because we know what they're planning I just don't know how to avoid it. What do you think we should?"

"Maybe you should pretend that you're into him. Like be overly peppy and just like be on top of him. I feel like that 1, would get annoying and 2, would make him look like a total ass and I just feel like it might work." She said. "I mean I'll try it. I don't know how well that will work but it's worth a try."

We hang up and I go downstairs to make dinner. I look through the pantry and find chocolate lucky charms, guess that'll do. (btw those are delicious) Once i'm done I go upstairs and go to sleep.
