------(Maddie's pov)-------   I never knew why people say 'It's what's on the inside that counts'. I don't find that true. If people could see in me, they would see the messed up image of me. They would find hate, jealousy, and stupidity. They would also see all the scars on my heart. That's what people don't get, words hurt.

     ------(Nicks pov)-------

Madeline, or Maddie as people call her, seems different. She isn't talking or eating much and she just seems out of it all the time. I wish I knew what was going on inside her head. Today at lunch she didn't even listen to anything we were saying. now we are in history together and she still isn't saying anything.

"Hey Maddie, are you ok?" I ask her.

Silence is my answer. I walk out of the classroom and go home. nothing really interesting happens at my house but I guess today is an exception. I walk in and the first thing I hear is the sound of a slap and someone screaming "Why do you always do this to me!" then silence. I walk up to my dad's bedroom door and peek in. My dad is sitting there kissing his new girlfriend.

"Nick! Why are you spying?" He questions me.

His girlfriend of the month turns so that her back is too my dad and she faces me. She is sitting on my dad's lap and my dad has his arms tight around her waist holding her to him.

"I-I wasn't," I answer lamely.

"Stop lying!" He says.

His girlfriend rubs his arm trying to calm him, which I know won't work. She looked slightly scared. My dad didn't like this so he moved his arms so that her arms were held tightly by her side and she couldn't move them.

"Don't move," He whispered to her.

looking back at me he said, " Go to your room!"

I turned to walk away but not before I watched him move one of his hands and put them up his girlfriends shirt. She let out a sound of discomfort. I cringed at the thought of what he was doing. I went to my room and slammed the door shut.
