The next few weeks were slow, after the whole thing with Annie, we were all being re-trained. Hanji, of course, was having a field day with all the new information, taking in every possible hypothesis. Every other day she went out, taking Eren with her to do some insane experiment. There were even a few times when he'd come back early to hide from the crazed woman.

Personally, you thought this was hilarious, though you didn't show it. You couldn't figure out what was wrong with you. 'Why can't I feel anything, why am I so different?'

~Flashback~

The world around you spun faster as you raced on, your short legs moving you at top speed through the unfamiliar grounds. You could hear them yelling, calling your name like you were their lost pet, like you were their property. You hated that you'd let this happen, let them take you. They'd already left a presence on you that would never heal-the deep wounds on your back from the endless hours of flogging. Each time you cried they cut further, for every sob they hit harder. "(Y/N)! Get back here! We're not finished yet!" You knew what he meant. Your shirt was torn on the top from their prying hands, the only thing keeping them from moving on was your solid kick to the nose that let you free. You couldn't waste your chance-freedom was so close. You could see the light from the street lamps ahead. At last you made it out, panting like crazy. The noise you made had attracted the Military police, the sound of their boots making the thugs run for the hills.

"Hey little girl, what're you doing out here this time of night?" A man asked with a questioning look.

"I-I, I was trying to get away from those p-people that were chasing m-me," Their faces fell as they took in your appearance, bloodied and bruised, eyes full of emptiness, cheeks covered in tear stains on your dirty face. You could've asked them to help you then, but instead you stood there, unsure of what to do next. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard, followed by two more. Before you knew it, the two officers in front of you fell, dying as their blood pooled around them. You couldn't scream, only run. You ran and ran until you found an empty alleyway and stacked boxes until you couldn't be seen. You tried to calm down but you couldn't stop hyperventilating, and the world was getting fuzzy due to your lack of oxygen. You heard your boxes fall behind you before you were being lifted up, then falling into unconsciousness.

When you woke up, a boy around your age looked at you with a cold stare, clearly judging your bloodstained clothes.

"Tch, what happened to you?" He asked. A girl with bright eyes and red hair came from behind him and scowled.

"You can't just say something like that! For all we know she could've been taken by the Rose Gang!" Her words struck a chord in you-that's what they were called, named after a delicate flower protected by thorns. It made you sick, but you couldn't show it. All you could do was stare into space as the girl bandaged you.

"You must've seen a lot huh?" She asked. You could only nod. "Isabelle, by the way," she said, extending her hand. Tentatively you took her hand. "What's your name?"

"(Y-y/N). (F/N) (L/N)." You said quietly.

"You're a (L/N)?" The raven haired boy asked, slightly shocked.

"Unfortunately..." you admitted. Your family had a very dark past. The (L/N)'s were known for their sciences and their tenacity for the answers they wanted. You unfortunately fell into the category of a lab rat when your father dubbed you as 'the unwanted child'. Ever since that day you'd been subject to their experiments, trying to enhance your senses. Unfortunately the science behind it was crude at the time, and they were forced to remove countless tumors as a result. Even before you were captured, you learned many things-mostly that even the closest people could betray you.
