!!!IMPORTANT!!!
-This was mostly a catch-up chapter for me, and I've made some MAJOR edits to the first chapter, so if you've been reading this so far I HIGHLY suggest looking back at the first chapter! There's some vital new information in there that will hopefully clear up any confusion that you might've had.
Anyways, sorry for the long note, so please enjoy!~
Your POV
It couldn't have been later than seven when you woke up. You had woken with a start, bolting straight up and searching the room in fear. Sure, you had stayed asleep last night, but it hadn't been pleasant. It was that dream again. It was like you couldn't escape it, no matter how hard you might try. It was then you realize that you weren't alone, and next to you was a very alert and concerned Levi.
"(Y/N), are you okay?" He asked with an edge of concern.
"Bad dream," you replied quietly, hoping he might not hear. You didn't want to remember it. Mostly because as much as it had been a dream, it was also a memory. One you'd been trying to bury for years.
Levi seemed to sense your nerves and didn't press you any further, merely offering some tea. You gratefully accepted, happy to have a distraction. You followed him closely to the small kitchen that occupied a small room at the end of the hall, watching his practiced motions as he poured you each a cup. The steam was warm and welcoming on your face, and the tea itself was savory and perfect.
"Thanks, Levi," You spoke lightly, unsure if somehow you might be caught. He merely grinned as he carefully cleaned the teapot and cups, now empty and abandoned on the small counter. Suddenly, Erwin appeared, rounding the corner with Hanji, who held a devilish smile and an unnerving shadow over her face.
"Good news," Erwin began. "We think we've got a foolproof way to get the Pastor to talk."
The ride to Ehrmich was unnerving and long. Everyone was on edge. If the plan failed, you could all lose your only source.
"So are we all just going to sit here and pretend like this 'foolproof' plan can't fail?" Levi chimed, breaking the tension-filled silence.
"It should work, Levi. As long as we stick to the-" Erwin's words were cut short by Levi.
"I'm well aware of the need to stick to the plan. But what doesn't make sense to me is how you managed to come up with it without talking to our esteemed priest."
"That's because we did talk to him," Hanji said, leaning into the conversation.
"Did he talk?" You asked, secretly a bit hopeful.
"Not as much as we would've liked," Erwin began
"But enough for us to get enough information to find a weakness. Getting him to see the refugees in Ehrmich might loosen him a bit, but if we can talk him out of his hiding place, we might be able to get him talking." Hanji concluded. The four of you fell back into silence.
Suddenly the horse stopped, and you all exited the cart quickly, eager to see if your plan would work. While everyone else quickly made their way to the priest, you stopped. There were people everywhere, some missing limbs, some sick, starving, or plainly alone. All of them had the same look over their eyes-the same one that haunts soldiers after they've ventured outside the walls and seen what those monsters could really do. It was a state of shock and horror that they couldn't escape. Some tried to, you could see that. It was something you'd done many times. Suddenly, they shoved the Priest out of the cart, his complaints piercingly loud. When he stopped talking you looked over to see him utterly horrified. The plan was working.
