A/N:
I'm so sorry it took so long to get this out to you guys, I've been really busy with sports and academics lately I've had no time to get any work done! As usual, a long chapter for my amazing readers!
You begrudgingly made the walk to Hanji's lab, remembering all of her previous crazy experiments. By the time you'd made it there, you were already regretting it and made a move to leave when the crazed woman started talking.
"Corporal (L/N), are you ready?" She asked.
"If it's not too much of a task, I'd prefer we get it done quickly." You stated formally. Hanji merely sighed.
"Well, as much as I'd love to get my hands on these wings of yours, that's not why you're here today. Protocol states that if you're gone for any reason outside of a two-week period that you're required to have a medical evaluation before fully returning to work. I tried to get Erwin to waive it, but with all the Military Police trouble lately, there's not much we'd want to do to make them question us any further." She explained. You merely sighed.
"Fine, if that's what has to be done."
"Excellent! Now, I'll take you back to our exam room. Our best doctor is in this week, and Erwin made sure to call him in for you."
"Let him know I appreciate it if you don't mind." You requested.
"Not a problem," Hanji said before leaving. You then sat idly on the lone wooden exam table in the corner of the room, waiting. After about ten minutes, a well-dressed man in a lab coat walked in with a clipboard and pen. Immediately you flashed back to the labs in the underground and had to push splinters into your hand to keep yourself grounded. 'It's fine, we're back now, we're safe, Levi is close by, they can't get to you anymore.'
"I assume you're Ms. (L/N), correct?" The man asked. You nodded
"I'm Dr. Renigh, by the way, but you can feel free to call me Daniel if you'd like." He added
"Corporal (L/N). I'd prefer this is as quick as possible." You stated.
"There are several squad leaders who prefer quick evaluations, so it shouldn't be a problem" He smiled. You did have to admit, the doctor they hired was good. He was compliant with your request that he be quick and touch you as little as possible.
"It would appear that you're in peak physical condition by my examinations. You seem to have taken well to your added appendages, and the bone structure within them seems solid." He stated calmly. "However, I do have some concerns about a few of your deeper wounds healing correctly. How are they sustained?" He questioned. Though you knew he meant well, his question had struck a cord within you.
"That's a question I'd prefer not to answer," You snapped back, squeezing the wooded table once again. The floodgates at the edge of your sanity were full, and they were very close to spilling over at any minute. It was taking much of your energy to keep your composure. The doctor, however, seemed to notice your behavior and habit of squeezing the bench for pain.
"Since I respect your authority and position in the scouts, I won't pry, but even without the degree, I can confidently say that you've endured great physiological trauma. If I might, I strongly advise that you take a few days to rest—"
"I'm fine, I assure you. Everyone in the scouts has seen things they will never forget. All of us have our own emotional trauma. I wouldn't use it as an excuse to sit on my ass for a week."
"Ms. (L/N), you really should heed my warning. Without time to cope, you'll overstress yourself and will almost certainly have a mental breakdown." Daniel warned. Regardless of his words, you were too stubborn and too proud to take an emotional recovery day.
