The game had started and I was already confused as I watched everyone rush past each other. Some were crashing into each other, the others stayed on the sidelines - frightened by what could happen to them.
The thing that surprised me the most was that both Nathaniel and Tristan played for the school's lacrosse team, and were the team's best players. I shivered when it was my turn to step into the game. "I'm scared, too. Don't feel alone." Cara gave me a pat on the shoulder before I went to grab a lacrosse stick out of the haphazard of a pile. "Acoste! You're goalie." Coach yelled to me.
I sighed and stood in front of the large net. I had never played lacrosse nor ever been goalie, so I didn't know what to expect. Maybe getting sent to the hospital might be a result. Coach blew the whistle and the players skyrocketed across the field. I didn't know where the ball was, or who even had it. I didn't even know which team was winning!
A player from the opposing team came running towards me with the ball sitting in the back of the stick's net. The ball was flung into the air - bolting until I felt a sharp pain in my nose, and everything went black.
. . .
I could hear distant laughter all around me when I sat up. My ears met Tristan's distinctive laugh and all I wanted to do was crawl away and never come back. A pair of feet came rushing over to my side, their arms wrapping around one of mine and another doing the same to the other.
I was lifted off of the ground and I stood up. "Are you okay?" I looked to the left to see Nicolette holding my left arm and Cara holding my right. Before I could answer Tristan remarkably replied. "You know she's not okay. Look at her. She couldn't even catch the ball!" He smirked after receiving a few laughs in response from his little 'clique.' "That's it," Nicolette grumbled before she attempted to go over to him, but I stopped her. "No, that's only going to make it worse. I'm fine." I wriggled out of the two grips on me and walked away.
"Made the right choice, Acoste!" I could tell how badly Nicolette wanted to fuss at him, but I told her not to.
. . .
Nicolette offered to drive me home to make me feel a little better about the incident that occurred earlier. "I knew he was gonna say something to you," She began, her eyes glued to the road in front of her.
"Why wouldn't he say something? He's Tristan, he's going to say something." I replied still rubbing my pain filled nose. "How'd your plan with Nathaniel go?"
"It went well. He asked me out." Her grinned glistened from the bright sun. "That isn't a surprise. He basically had his hands all over you during class. Plus it looked like you two were flirting." She giggled her usual high-pitched giggle. "You could say that.." We suddenly stopped at a red light. "You like him don't you?"
"He likes me."
"Well, do you like him back?" She giggled once again. I could tell she didn't want to admit that she did like Nathaniel back, cause she would always giggle. "...yeah." To be honest, she's not that great at hiding the truth.
"I knew it you did." The light soon changed to green, and we sped off in the direction towards my house.
. . .
Once I reached home I went to see if the mail had come yet. It was full with junk mail. I sighed and closed my mailbox lid.I pulled out my keys and unlocked the door. Pushing the door open, I threw my backpack aside and headed upstairs. As I was about to go into my room, Drew came out of his and said hi. "Hey," I replied. "There was a letter for you in the mailbox. I put it on your desk." He said.
"Thanks," I smiled to him before heading into my room, closing the door behind me. I noticed a blue envelope on my desk. I tore through the blue paper and read the letter that was inside.
