The school day had finally ended. I headed to the school buses parked out front, looking for one in particular. I was about to climb onto the steps when my best friend, Nicolette tapped me on the shoulder. "Hey, what's up?" She asked while giving me a smile.
"Nothing much, you?" I shrugged before heading up the steps. I shifted through the seats searching for an empty one. I was about to head to an empty one in the back when someone tapped my leg. I looked down to see Hayden staring up at me. She was sitting next to Cole, of course. She always does that.
"Mom said we have a surprise at home, just thought you'd know." She said.
"That's good to know," I nodded to her and proceeded to the empty seat. As soon as we both sat down Nicolette already started asking me multiple questions - which all were about my older brother Drew.
"So.. how's him and his girlfriend?" Her hands trailed down to her knees as she asked the question. "Good. He doesn't answer his phone much, so I don't get the opportunity to talk to him as much as I wanted to." I folded my arms as I felt the bus start to move out of the parking lot. Unfolding my arms I reached into my backpack to pull my folder out. Even though I finished revising it, I wanted to see what someone else though of the letter.
"Read this," I gave the paper to Nicolette, where she sent me a confused look. "what is this?" I stared at her blankly. "My project. For English." She sighed before beginning to read it.
I waited on her reaction to it, looking down at the letter and back at her frequently. "It's nice. Did your teacher assign you a pen pal?"
"Yeah, pretty much. Mine lives in California."
"You do realize there's tons of hot guys in California, right?"
"I'm aware, but I don't think any hot guys would be doing this type of thing."
"You never know."
. . .
I pulled my keys out to unlock the door. "So, have you thought about you and your boyfriend's anniversary coming up," I asked. I expected Hayden to beside me, so I turned around to see her literally making out with her boyfriend. In public.
"Why do I even bother.." I rolled my eyes and opened the door. I shut the door behind me, leaving it unlocked for when my sister decided to come in. I put my backpack on the hook sitting on the wall, till I jumped from someone saying my name. I turned around, and it was Drew - standing there grinning widely.
I gasped before pulling him into a tight hug. "I missed you so much," I said, but it was muffled due to my face buried in his shirt. "I missed you too." I released my arms from around him. "When did you even get here?"
"Not too long ago, about an hour or so."
"Is Hayley here or is she back in New Jersey?"
"Nope. She was visiting her family this weekend so I decided to visit mine," His hands sunk in his pockets. "Where's Hayden?"
"She's outside. Making out with her boyfriend." I brushed a piece of hair behind my ear. "Do you want anything to eat, drink?" I asked as I stepped into the kitchen. "A water's fine." He replied. I heard the door open in the distance. It took her long enough.
Hayden stepped into the kitchen only to run over to Drew and hug him, too. "I can't believe you're here! It's been at least a few months!" She exclaimed.
"Well, I'm here now. I was going to be sooner but you know, work schedules and stuff." He flattered, then unscrewing the cap on his water bottle. "So, what have you two been up to?"
"Not much. Just have a project to do for English." I shrugged. "Really? What kind?"
"Everyone got assigned a pen pal for two weeks, so I have to five things about them. It's pretty stupid if you ask me, but I don't want to fail for the semester."
"It might seem stupid right now, but you might end up talking to them for a long time." I fiddled with my fingers.
But what I didn't know was that he was absolutely right. We would end up talking for more than two weeks.
hope you enjoyed the second chapter of the story! :) stay tuned for more.
