When the day arrived, Phana came to the Suradej estate. He had done things more properly than most. His letter to Mr Suradej was asking permission not to take Wayo to bed, but rather permission to ask Yo first. If Wayo agreed and, his father did too, then and only then would Pha take the boy.

Although most things that had been said about Phana were not complimentary, Mr Suradej respected him for his old-fashioned approach with the letter. He also was deeply grateful for Phana's part in bringing Sutee home after Park's apparent return to his former bad ways.

Pha explained in his letter that with a large sum of money promised, ( he claimed, offered by the Uncle, ) he was sure that Park would start gambling with it before it was actually in his possession. He was right.

Just the day before, he sat across from the beautiful face of his second son. He'd read Phana's request and he wanted to know Wayo's thoughts. Mr Suradej could see in Yo's eyes when he said he loved P'Phana "so much," that he meant every word. Wayo described Phana's generous nature with clouds in his eyes. Yo's voice was softened just by speaking his name.

Mr Suradej remembered exactly what it was like to be so in love. With tears in his eyes, he kissed Yo's forehead and gave his permission.  If Wayo loved Phana, his father would not stand in his way.

.........................

The tall finely dressed Pha stood in Mr Suradej's quiet room.  Yo's father could see that even a man so composed could look nervous. He kept direct eye contact while he waited for Uncles answer.  "Yes Nong, you may ask my son to bed and if he agrees, you have my blessing."

Mr Suradej took Phana's right hand and held it with both of his. "Nong, my son Wayo is a tenacious boy, he will give you trouble for sure, but, I ask that you are patient with him. Yo is filled with youth, energy, and life, but Nong, he is far more tender than he lets people know. Nong'Phana, I could not hand my son over to anyone less worthy."

His cheeks were bright pink, Phana smiled and bowed several times making a wai.

"Thank you, Uncle, thank you.

Uncle, I can promise you sir, that if Nong'Yo accepts me, I will make all that is in my world his, I will lay my heart at his feet and, all the love I have in it."

.........................

"P'Hill came to Wayo's room where he was pacing in circles. "Nong'Wayo, Nong'Phana is done speaking with your father, he's waiting for you in the lane and has asked that you walk with him."

Fourth had tears in his eyes, he stood and walked to his younger brother and took him in his arms. He never said a word, his firm hug and tender kiss on Yo's cheek were all that was needed. As he walked out the door, Wayo turned and looked back, wish me luck big brother."

.......................

It wasn't his plan at all, but, he shouldn't have been surprised when Yo spoke first.

"P'Pha, I know that you've done many things and that you wanted to be unknown in them. I can't help myself, I have to thank you. None of my brothers realize that it's you they owe their happiness to, and my father, who worries about the money, doesn't know he owes it to you."

Wayo didn't even take a breath in between words. "P', I've said some really awful things to you and, I want to make you understand how sorry I am for them, ah, for that."

Wayo had a jitter in his voice but, his stutter didn't stop him.

"I'm so sorry P'Pha, my prejudice..."
