“We’re going to talk to them.”  I get out and lead her to the door.

“Well hello Madison.” Her mom opens the door. “Harold.” I shake her hand and take of my shoes in the entrance way. We sit down and she slides a cup of coffee in front of Madi.

“I’m sorry, she’s really hyper. I can’t have coffee today.” She smiles.

“Okay. So why are you here.“ She says all prissy.

“You said we could talk something out. I spoke directly to you.” I speak up. “Our daughter needs grandparents. My mom and step dad don’t need to fill all the shoes of that. I’m not asking for money, or pity or a babysitter. I’m asking you to be there. To be there for our daughter, at birthdays and graduation. Not for Madi or I. For our daughter.” I say.

“I wasn’t planning on having a granddaughter at forty-five. Now would you please leave?” She says sternly.

“This isn’t about you. This is about our baby. Please think about it. We want a stable family.” I say, starting to get even more aggravated.

“Well it isn’t us.” Her father says and I stand up.

“Fine, whatever. I’m done. Let’s go Madi. Go out to the car I’ll be right out.” I hand her the keys. She nods and I peck her cheek. “Now, Mr McKay, I’m doing my best to help Madison with our daughter. You may be her biological father but you aren’t and never will be her father. And without your help, I’m going to be a father to my daughter.” I try not to yell at him.

“Don’t blame this on us! You did this to her! You got her pregnant! She’s the disappointment here!” He yells and I can’t help it.

“I’m wonderfully to her sir! We don’t need you, you poor excuse for a father!” I storm out the doors and meet Madi at the bottom of the steps. “I Thought I told you to get in the car!” She turns away from me and gets in. “I’m sorry, let’s just go. I shouldn’t have said that to you like that. I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t listen. I’m sorry my dad is an ass.” She says and I back the car into Niall’s driveway.

“Just distract me please.” I ask. I didn’t want to go over there and punch my future father in law”. I follow Madi into the house and hug her. “I love you  I love your voice.” I pull her as close as I can. “How about you pay off that bet?” I smirk.
