Colors of Confusion

Chapter 5

“Hello Clematis, John.”” My mom says taking a dinner and I follow taking the seat across from Luke.

“Hello Lilith, how have you been?” Luke’s mother says with a smile.  My mom and his mom chat about idle things while I look at the menu.

“Hello, My name is Jaime and I’m going to be your waiter tonight.” A familiar voice says, I look up to see Jaime smiling and holding a notepad.”Hermanito, how are you.”

“I’m doing good, you work here?” I ask and he nods.

“Yes, I work here from time to time, my Mom and Dad own the restaurant.” Jaime explains, so not only was he the cooking club president but he also worked at a restaurant part time. I never know that about him.” So what can I get you guys to drink.”

Everybody tells Jaime what they want to drink and he heads off to go get them. So our parents begin to talk about whatever and me and Luke sit and a awkward silence.

“So how do you my brother?” Luke’s older brother ask.

“We have classes together.” I tell him.

“Marcos, don’t ask anything weird or about that.” Luke warns and His brother rolls his eyes.

“ How close are you two?” He ask raising an eyebrow

“Umm in what regard?” I ask slightly confused.

“Like friends or something else?” His brother says with an eye roll.

“I hope we're friends.” I reply  as Jaime comes back with our drinks.

“Do you guys know what you want to eat?” Jaime ask and we nod our heads.

“A enchilada,a burrito, and a taco.” I tell Jaime and he jots it down and takes everyone else's order. He heads off to the back. I take a sip out of my drink and wait for my food.

“So, Soutine what do you do?” Luke mom ask me.

“I’m the art club president at school.” I tell her and she looks impressed.

“That is pretty cool, Luke over here is in the drama club.” His mom says and his dad rolls his eyes.

“He should be preparing to take over the business since his brother shows no potential of doing the sort.” His dad says in a very strict tone and Luke visibly flinches at the sound of his dad voice, his brother rolls his eyes and scoff. His mom just sighs.

“Honey let’s not talk about this in public.”Luke mom sighs which is followed by something like” Or never again.”

I keep my mouth shut and try not to step in, but the scene that was playing out out was seeming to become a bad one. Thankfully Jaime came back with our food.

“If you need anything else just let me know!” Jaime says before walking away. We eat dinner and it was pretty much filled with idle chat. When we finish eating we leave Jaime a pretty big tip. We say goodbye to the Almadas. We head home and I get ready for bed.  Before I head to bed I sketch a picture.  When I finish the drawing, I head to bed.

I wake up to my phone going off. I look at my phone to see Sasha calling me.

“Hello?” I ask in my excessively groggy voice. I hear her sigh.

“Get up I am picking you up in like 10 minutes.” Sasha says to me before hanging up. I get up and start to get dressed. When I get finish I grab my bag and head to the door.

“Wait, Soutine. Take this.” My mom says handing me a twenty dollar.” An apology for that dinner.”

I smile as I take the money from my mom.
