Riley cupped her hands and brought them to her face in excitement. All of this, for her? No one had ever really made a big gesture to show their love for her, so she was really really happy. She nodded her head yes, which made Dean's face grow into a smile, he dropped the sign and she ran to him, embracing him in a hug.
The crowd was cheering and for a moment, everything seemed like it was going to be okay. She forgot any problems she was dealing with for the time being and just tried to remember how she felt in that moment. After the hug was over, people started to leave. Most were going home, but for the teens of Midtown High, the night had just begun.

Peter was sitting on his bed, in a nice flannel and jeans, when he heard the doorbell ring. He got up and answered, knowing it was Ned. "Jesus Christ, how much cologne are you wearing? I could practically smell it from down the hall," Peter asked him, laughing a little.
"Does it smell good? I just wanted to try it," Ned said, shrugging.
"It's fine, just put on a little less next time," Peter said, shaking his head. They decided to wait a little longer in case people got to the party late. Ned was getting a ride with him, Michelle would probably show up, and he still hadn't heard a word from Anastasia, despite the multiple texts he had sent to her.
When they had got to the party, it was already packed. There were multiple nice cars in the driveway, one of them Peter recognized was Dean's. From the loud music coming from inside the house, and one of the kegs he spotted being brought into the house, Peter assumed that his parents weren't home. He then began to wonder if Dean had driven her to his house. Peter had to stop himself from thinking further.
The stench of alcohol was so strong and the sound of the bass was so loud, Peter was tempted to pinch his nose and cover his ears. But, he didn't. There was a lot of people there, but not as many as he had expected. There were seniors, juniors, and a few sophomores, but most of the guests were upperclassmen. Some of the people stared and Peter could tell they were thinking, what the hell are they doing here?
Riley obviously hadn't approved of the kegs, which would have her killed by her father. Dean had left her for a moment to say hi to some of the other guys. Liz had left her to go mingle as soon as they arrived, and there was no sign of Peter yet. She stood alone at the countertop.
Peter spotted her the moment after he walked in. She was leaning against a countertop, her back to him. He couldn't tell if she was having fun or not, but then the party had just started. All he knew was that she looked really pretty tonight. They began to walk towards her. "Hey, Riley!" Ned said, screaming towards her. She turned around and her face broke out into a smile.
"Hey, guys! The party started half an hour ago, I was starting to think you guys bailed on me," Riley said, joking around with them.
"We just wanted to be fashionably late," Ned said, looking around. "Did you drink anything yet?"
"No!" Riley said."I'm not drinking anything. Even if I wanted to, my dad's picking me up later and he's practically a cop when it comes to these things, so..."
"Well, I'm gonna go look for Michelle, me and her kind of have a thing going on," Ned said, smirking at them.
"You and Michelle?" Peter said, skeptical. "That's hard to believe, last time I heard she hates everyone."
"But, the thing we have is special," Ned says, before disappearing into the crowd.
Things were slightly awkward for a few seconds before Peter spoke up, "You look p-pretty tonight."
