"Why do you treat her like that?" Mrs. Diaz asked her son.
"Well, she's hard to deal with, and then she blames us when she gets into trouble."
"Is that all?"
"Well, she's sensitive, retarded, and annoying!" Marco said while raising his voice.
"Mijo, you don't understand..."
"Oh i don't understand? Everything used to be fine, until she acted all weird! For no reason, at all! And you tell me, i don't understand? She's the problem, she's pathetic herself! " the latino said clearly irritated.
His mother just sighed, seeing no hope for her son, but she didn't give up.
"Marco, mijo, when you were young, you were just like Star. Cheerful sometimes, but hard to control, but did we see you as 'pathetic'? No, we took care for you all these years, even when you're a pain in our hearts sometimes." Mrs. Diaz said. Marco's face started to light up, and realize what his mother was saying. As his anger turned into sadness, he then listened eagerly to his mother.
"Maybe you don't remember, but before Star arrived here, you were an entirely different person. You were always alone, you acted weird, you don't like being with other people, just as how Star looks right now, but we still loved you for who you are..." she said as her son's eyes were filled with tears of regret.
"But when she arrived here, you changed. You became more confident, more handsome, more friendly. In fact, you should be thanking her." her mother said as she sighed one last time...
"Y'know, if it weren't for her, you would not be here right now. In fact, you have no idea how much pain she is in right now. Lost her friends, not loved by her parents, emotionally scarred. Now tell me mijo, do you think that is the way too repay the love she has given you?"
And at that moment, truth and reality hit Marco on the head. It was too much for him to take in, and suddenly cried and embraced his mother.
"I'm sorry! i-i don't what happened to me! I had no idea she was in that kind of a situation! I'm sorry!" Marco said as he cried louder.
"Don't tell me that, tell that to Star. It would work better, if you two just talk it out." she said as she patted her son in the back to comfort her.
"You're right, thanks mom. I'm really lucky to have you." he said as his mother wiped the tears of his face.
