Once Sasha left, Draco looked at me and smiled, "Well, what are you waiting for! Come, follow me, student."
Student? Is that what he thinks of me? That I'm some sort of child? Hell no.
"Rude, much." Is what I say instead.
He chuckles and gives me that wicked smile of his, "You'll learn to adore me."
"You wish," I mumble under my breath.
Draco then goes and turns a right so fast that I end up hitting the wall before I could even process the sudden change. I let out a scream of frustration, only earning another laugh from him. He goes and reaches a door marked Beginner Training.
"I AM NOT A BEGINNER."
Do I sound like a little girl with the dream of ruling the world?
Most likely.
People walking through the hallways stare at me awkwardly and take cautious steps away from me.
"Sure you aren't."
My anger has already burst through the roof, but this kid is making it burst out of the planet. Of course, I don't want him to have a reason to tell Sasha to fire me so I keep my mouth shut.
"First thing is, we need to know how much you know about living in space."
"Living in space? I know plenty. What do you think I did in my-"
"Eight years of college." He continues for me, rolling his eyes, "can you not mention that every five seconds. Because you are and always will be, in these eight months, a student."
Draco turns on his heel and speed walks over to a desk in the center of the room. "Sit." He instructs. Smiling at the amount of command he has over me. I fume over that smile and instead, I grab the chair pulling it towards me, seeming as if I was about to sit, and flung the chair at him.
"I prefer to stand," I say, crossing my arms.
I wait for his smile to vanish but instead, it spreads wider, which I didn't know was possible. "Very well." Draco chimes, taking out a big red binder. He slams it on the desk I stand in front of, "You'll be a taking an eight month's worth test. Every day, for the whole week, you'll have to complete a binder. Even if you don't finish, I'll take it away. Please hand me your purse and you'll be on your way."
What the hell? Today? Right now?
Whatever. I'm sure it'll be as easy as pie. So I hand him over my purse and, still standing, snatch the pencil off the desk and flip the binder open.
At a rate from one to ten, with one being the hardest, I'd say it was a five. The first half was simple.
The second half? Not so much.
It talked about things I never learned about, medical procedures, parts of drones. That part, I was sure I failed. I finished the binder and was looking over some of the answers I felt unsure about when Draco slid the entire desk away sharply.
I give him a death glare and he grins."How was it, student?" I don't answer to make it clear I won't reply if given that tone. He tries again threatening to tell Sasha but I know how she feels about him. After about thirty seconds, he gives up. "Fine! Have it your way...Tia." He says my name with disgust, but it's better than what he called me before.
The next thing he tells me to do is to put on a Virtual Reality Headset. "Why?" I ask.
"You'll see."
He puts on his own and I do the same. Once I open my eyes, I'm surprised with a burst of light and a scene of orange-ish and purple skies appear. I look down at the ground to see millions of tiny gems, rubies, diamonds, emeralds and every kind one could imagine. I look into the distance to see Draco, standing there, looking at me. I walk the quarter-mile it takes me to get to him and wave my hand in front of his face. He hasn't blinked at all and I'm starting to wonder if this is what happens when the VR set is removed. But then he speaks:
"We have run out of our water as well as our rocket has run out of fuel. We are stranded here, knowing our fate is about to knock on death's door. But I remember something... something back home..."
There is another flash of white and I'm back with Draco once again, but this time at the Space Station.
"Come here, Dave! I found something!" Lolah says in her strong Hawaiian accent, waving Dave over. He rushes in through the door and looks over at her computer.
"What is it? Did you mess up again?" He says annoyingly.
Lolah sighs, "No, remember Planet3368? I know you told me not to, but I was looking through the satellites to look at the unknown planets a bit more. I found this planet right here, part of a completely new solar system, with a sun so much smaller than ours!"
Dave slams the desk in frustration. "So you pulled me over to show me you broke the rules? Just wait until I tell Sa-"
"No! That's not it, I zoomed in a little bit and found a trace of what looks like water. Is'nt that amazing! I think we should investigate further!"
"Not a chance, the planet is so far away anyways, It would take maybe 20 years for a drone to reach there!"
The scene starts to fade away and my feet are back on the gem surface. Water. That is what the memory had tried to show me, there is water somewhere on this planet. I think back to Lolah's computer screen. There was a huge sparkly circle in the center of the planet. In the center of that, was what Lolah was accusing to be water. I looked to my right and saw that the gems just starting appearing only a few yards before.
I know what direction to go now, so I'll be on my way.
At some point, both Draco and I reach the area of water. I am not even thirsty but drink it anyway. I am about to sip the clean, cold water from my hands when I am suddenly back in the Beginner Training Room.
"That is all for today student," He tells me, "your training session is over."
Even though he called me student again, I still walked out the door confused from my first day at the job.
That was some weird training.
