The next morning, the four superheroes were seated in cars - Steve with T'Challa and Bucky with Natasha. The only reason Natasha had to ride with Bucky was because he insisted that "Steve shouldn't be the only one to ride with the attractive person of the opposite gender."
"So... ,"Bucky said. "How did it go with Steve last night. I heard him go into your room." Bucky looked at Natasha, moving his eyebrows up and down. Natasha, who was driving, glared at him.
"I only tolerate you because you're Steve's best friend. If you don't stop, I will gladly crash this car into a tree, leaving only one survivor. That survivor will be me," she forcefully said. As much as Bucky wanted to tease Steve and Natasha's relationship, the red headed spy was just too intimidating. Besides, when Natasha put her mind to something, she keeps it in her mind.
On the other hand, in Steve's car, the ride was much quieter. Both men had really nothing to say, so they kept the ride silent.
That is, until T'Challa asked him, "What happened between you and Miss Romanoff last night? You didn't come back from her room until the morning." Steve blushed as he heard this, and thought back to what happened after his conversation with Natasha.
Steve was just about to leave when he heard a voice behind him.
"Steve - uh - can you sleep with me tonight?" Natasha asked him. Steve's cheeks turned bright red. Natasha, realizing what she just said, blushed too.
"I didn't mean it in that way," she said, playing with her luscious red locks. "Just, because I might have another nightmare, and I want someone to calm me down or prevent me from screaming and waking up other people." Steve agreed to this, although he noticed there was only one bed in the room.
The two awkwardly climbed onto the bed and leaved at least a foot of space between them.
"Good night," Steve said to Natasha.
"Sweet dreams," she said back to him as she turned on her other side to face away from him. Steve, with his lips turned up slightly, began to sleep too.
Throughout the night, Natasha had a few nightmares. When those happened, Steve would either pat her shoulder reassuringly or awkwardly put his arms around her. Either way, she would still calm down, and her breathing would become even.
When Steve woke up that morning, he was face to face with a red-haired, Russian beauty. Luckily, she was still sleeping. Startled, Steve quietly got out of bed and crept into his own room, where Bucky and T'Challa were waiting for him with looks of amusement on their faces. They teased him about all morning until Natasha came and kicked both of their shins.
"No," Steve said, smiling. "Nothing happened between us." Although T'Challa noticed he was grinning, he said nothing.
Soon, they arrived at the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, where Maria Hill was waiting for them outside. Natasha must've contacted S.H.I.E.L.D. prior to their arrival, saying that they were coming.
"Agent Hill," Steve said, nodding to the dark haired woman who stood in front of him.
"Hey Steve, no need for formalities," she said with a smile on her face. T'Challa gave her a quick hello. Then, the three stood silently outside, waiting for the rest of the crew to come. Soon enough, a black Corvette zoomed into the parking lot, and Natasha came out of it, with Bucky following close behind.
"Hey Maria. Sorry if I was late. This idiot kept on begging for a hot dog, so I had to buy him one," she said, shooting a disgusted look at Bucky, who was happily munching on a hot dog. Maria laughed.
"Well, it's nice to see you again, too," she said to Natasha. "Let's go inside. You know Fury doesn't like to be kept waiting." Once inside and in a private room, they were greeted by Nick Fury, who sat at a conference table with his arms crossed.
"Captain Rogers, I haven't seen you in a while," he said, and shook Steve's hand.
"As for you, Romanoff, you better stop showing your face to the public. It makes me miss you more and more," he said in a joking tone. Natasha smirked and shook his hand.
"No problem, sir. I'll do just that," she said with a wink, and sat down at the table like everyone else. Fury put a serious expression on his face now, and folded his hands on the table.
"So, why have you come here?" He asked them. Steve opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by Natasha.
"We want your help. We're gonna break Team Cap out of prison and we can't do it alone. We barely have any weapons, and we have no backup," she stated clearly, looking Fury in the eye.
"Done. I can give you just that," Fury responded, spreading his arms out. "I have the S.T.R.I.K.E. team ready for a new mission, and some of your old suits and weapons."
"What kind of weapons?" Steve asked, smiling.
"Stark left this on my doorstep," Fury answered, getting up and pulling Steve's shield out of a closet. The blond soldier gasped.
"I guess he felt sorry for you? I honestly don't know why he brought it," Fury said, answering everyone's unasked question. Natasha was squinting at the shield that Fury was holding.
"I don't think Stark would feel very sorry for Steve. I think he brought it for a different reason," she said, and pursed her lips.
"Either way, I'm glad to have my shield back," Steve remarked, taking it from Fury.
After gathering all their weaponry, Steve and his friends went to a separate room to rest. Suddenly, Fury came in with someone behind him.
"Rogers, I brought someone I thought you might want to see," he said, stepping aside to reveal a tall blond-haired woman with brown eyes.
"Hi Steve," the woman said.
So... who do you think the mystery woman is (even though it might be obvious)? Comment your guesses of who you think she is.
