Katie, Hunk and Lance were in the dorm when Keith got back from working at Starbucks, but the best greeting was one he received from Marmora. He picked her up and walked to the others. He'd met them a few times before and had just got the hang of their names, and nicknames. Well, only Katie had a nickname, they called her Pidge. But Lance liked Katie better than Pidge.
Katie had been in their room so often for the past few days, it was like Keith had a third roommate. She was always helping Lance study, and vicariously studying herself. They had only a week until finals and then it was Christmas break, and while everyone seemed to be talking about it, Keith would be staying in his dorm and waiting it out.
He had asked Lance when he planned to go back and if he was going to be taking the early finals, but he had said he didn't know yet. Katie was going home to her family. She had a brother as well, and her brother was married. Hunk was headed home as well, but he didn't talk much about anything other than the Christmas dinner.
Keith sat his bag down on his bed and pulled out his laptop. He had a few new emails, one being from his photography professor. Keith's favourite class had to be photography, he loved capturing moments and being able to look back at them even when they're gone. But he did not love this assignment, in fact, he hated it. He opened the email. He needed to photograph at least one person for a school project, and write about what makes them beautiful to showcase his work.
Keith went pale, and Katie walked over and picked up his laptop. She burst out laughing after reading the email. "This," she said in between giggles, "Is why I don't take photography." Hunk wasn't interested, but Lance walked over and looked at the screen. He smirked.
"So, I guess you'll need a model?"

The most Keith and Lance ever talked was late at night, when they were each in their beds but not yet asleep. "When do we start shooting?" Lance was propped up on his elbow, looking at Keith.
"Not that I've agreed to use you, but it's due after break." Lance sat up and tilted his head, like a dog that was confused.
"First of all, you're using me, secondly, you take different classes after this semester." Keith shook his head.
"Photography is a full year class. They figure we'll take Christmassy pictures of family." Lance nodded.
"And why don't you?"
"I don't have any. Family, I mean." Lance opened his mouth, "don't say you're sorry. It's not your fault and I'm getting tired of hearing people say it."
"I'm sorry." Lance swore. "I mean, I'm sorry for being sorry. Which I'm not! Sorry. Wait, what?" Keith laughed, and so did Lance.
Keith thought about how if Katie and Hunk had been there, they'd have laughed too. He made a mental note to tell them about it.
And for the first time in a long time, he felt like he had a family right where he was.

They did the 'photo shoot' in their dorm, on Keith's shabby side of the room. It was Lances idea to have him dress in grey as well. Keith agreed, he liked the idea of all the attention being just on Lances looks and not his clothes. After two hours, they had he best shots they could get. Keith had booked the dark room for the following week.
Now he needed the written component, but he had decided to put that off. Now, Hunk and Katie were in their room and Lance was showing off the photographs. "Keith your a really good photographer!"
"Oh, thanks. It's nothing special, theres thousands of pictures out there that look exactly the same. Kinda takes away the joy of photography don't ya think?"
"Vemödalen." Katie nodded. Everyone looked at her, puzzled, as they did after she said a lot of things. "It's uh, the frustration of knowing that no matter what photo you take, thousands of identical ones already exist."
"Let me be the first to ask, Pidge my dear, why do you fill your brain with such useless facts?" Hunk had asked, causing Katie to smirk.
"I like your shirt Hunk, cinnabar stains are my favourite."
Hunk looked down at his stained orange shirt. "Oh, that's ketchup. Guess you don't know everything Pidge."
"Hunk, cinnabar is a colour. Dark red." Hunks face flashed cinnabar. Everyone laughed, and Katie went to drill Keith on everything else he knew that related to rare colours, and other things.
"So what are you going to write about Lance? He's attractive right?" Keith raised an eyebrow.
"You tell me, you're a girl."
"I'm Asexual, Keith. And you're gay, so this," she waved her hands around, "is your expertise." Keith opened his eyes wide, and looked to see if Hunk or Lance had been paying attention. "It's obvious, to me really, but everything is obvious to me, so, they probably don't know."
"Okay. Well, I'd rather not tell them till I uh, meet someone." Pidge smirked. Suddenly, he liked the name Pidge.
"You already have. And guess what? He likes you too." Keith laughed, maybe Katie didn't know everything.
"Have you seen Lance? He's straighter than Marmoras whiskers."
"I don't know what to tell you Keith, but I will tell you one thing." She leaned in, pretending to pat the cat. "Don't doubt me on this."
