Christina's POV:

"You've been awfully quiet today." I say at lunch, looking at Epic sideways.

"What? Oh no I'm not hungry." I narrow my eyes, still looking at her. She's really out of it.

"I didn't ask if you were--wait what's that?" I say noticing a purplish bruise on her cheek.

"It's nothing. I...tripped." Yeah that's believable...I lean in and look at her closer.

"Did Cole do this?" I ask quietly. Her eyes float down and her hands shake as she fidgets nervously with her sweater. That's what she always does when she's lying.

"Uh..."

"I'm gonna kill him." I yell looking around the cafeteria, but I don't see Cole. That little bastard's lucky we're not in the same room.

"Chris, no. I love him." I roll my eyes. I love him... See, Epic just doesn't get it. This isn't the first time he's hit her and it won't be the last....unless I do something about it.

"But he doesn't love you." I say quietly trying to get her to understand how horrible this guy is. They've been together two years and she still won't listen. "I know you don't want to hear this but...you need to...break up with him." Epic looks up at me with glassy eyes and I take in the sight of her fully for the first time today. She has dark circles under her eyes, probably from lack of sleep, and she's skinnier, and doesn't smile like she used to. She looks...dead. Like Cole's literally sucked the life out of her. "Epic?"

"I know, I know...but he only hits me when I do something wrong!" I roll my eyes.

"And what did you do this time?"

"I didn't answer him fast enough." Is she being serious right now???

"Dude he's a bastard who doesn't give a shit about your feelings. You could do so much better!! After school we can go to my house and make you all pretty, and I promise guys will be all over you. Good guys." She smiles a little, but then stops as if she thinks better of it.

"...Alright..."
