After making plans to stay after school a few days to retake some tests, I run out of school the moment the end bell rings, straight to Nana's car, where Jesse's waiting for me, all fresh and beautiful. I missed him so fucking much, wow. Tonight, is prom, and I'm going with him. I'm nervously excited; anxiously overjoyed. My peers still aren't too fond of my existence, and it's going to be a crazy night for Jesse, since he still has his fear of crowds and largely populated, small spaces. Jesse smiles when he sees me approaching the car, but his smile fades when someone throws a water balloon at my back, and it explodes, thus soaking my shirt. He gets out of the car and, full of rage, tries to get past me to give Brandon hell. "No, Jesse, remember what I told you?" I whisper to him as I stop him, using my calm voice. "But that shit isn't fair." He mumbles, pissed off. "They shouldn't treat you like that."
"They'd treat me even worse if my Sugar Daddy beat up their alpha. Now, let's go. It isn't worth it." I take his hand and we walk back to the car, water dripping down my back. Snake's really shedding that tough skin of his. He's becoming soft-souled around me, though still a bit overprotective, which I don't mind at all. I like to have someone to stick up for me occasionally. Nana's waiting for us when we get home, but we make her wait so I can go upstairs and change out of the soaking wet shirt. Snake follows me to my room, and perches on my desk while I change. This reminds me of when I came out of the shower that one day after school, and found him sitting there, the weekend of our campout. I look at him, and he's biting his lip, watching me in complete admiration. Slowly, I walk over to him, and gently brush my lips against his, just lightly enough to make him whine, and I smirk and pull on a clean shirt. I swear, I'm so close to making him my bitch, it's hilarious. He's just become so damn submissive to my power; it's unbelievable, but I love it. Ever since hes come back, hes been noticeably different, but I don't mention anything. I take his hand, and together, we meet Nana in the car to head to the restaurant for a quick dinner before we must get ready. Snake and I sit in the back while Nana drives, and I sit in the middle seat so I can be closer to him, and he wraps an arm around me and kisses my cheek, and I see Nana smile in the rearview mirror. We arrive at the restaurant, a small business downtown, where I know none of my classmates will be, because Nana says it's expensive, but she's willing to pay, since it's our special night. It's a lovely meal, and the chicken and appetizers taste delicious. Snake feeds me the occasional French fry, and Nana tells us that she's giving us the house for the weekend, while she goes to spend time with her sister. She claims the only reason is for her to see her, but I see her wink at Snake, and I know that the legitimate reason she's leaving us alone is so we can have kahoots after prom. I wonder why she assumes that. Snake says something funny, and both Nana and I laugh, and I kiss him, and for the first time, Nana does not quote the lord, or grasp her cross pendant. The necklace remains tucked away in her blouse, and she smiles, content. She's just pleased to see her grandson finally happy. I'm just surprised I ever found that mysterious place of bliss. I couldn't be happier, and if I'm happy, so is she. I'm her everything, and she loves me. I love Nana. She's the best grandmother in the world.
Tux newly tailored, I'm the first to come downstairs to meet Nana. We decided it would be more dramatic to change in separate rooms and have a big reveal. Nana's sobbing by the time she takes me all in, and she hugs me quickly, not wanting to stain my suit with her tears. She tells me I look handsome, and I say that I look like a monkey in a suit, which she laughs at, through her tears. Did Jesse get lost in his suit? I wouldn't be surprised. Hes never worn one. While we're waiting, Nana nearly chokes me while tying the bowtie on my neck. I'm sweating, not sure if it's nerves or heat. I hope it's not sweltering at the dance. It's being held at the community center, which hopefully has air conditioning, or else I fear I'll have a heatstroke. Just as she's finishing the tying, she freezes, and her eyes open wide, and her mouth opens slightly, in a silent gasp. I slowly turn around, and I see what has her so aghast. Jesse's standing just outside the staircase, hands in the pockets of his trousers. He looks absolutely breathtaking, and I can't peal my eyes off him. With perfect strides, he walks over to me, and stops about a foot away. I wonder if he thinks I look at least half as good as he does.
"Wow." I mouth, no sound coming out, embarrassing. My hands want to reach out and touch him, but they remain stapled to my sides. "You too." Jesse mouths back, speechless as well. No words are spoken for the longest time, even as Nana starts to snap pictures of us, annoying flash and all, and we just stand there, gazing at each other. "I've never seen anything more beautiful than you are right now." Jesse says, lightly brushing his thumb against my cheek. I blush and look to the floor, but he gently takes my chin in his hand and tilts my face back up to look at him. He kisses me, and I feel like I'm floating. How in the hell did I ever deserve him? Nana takes a picture of us kissing, which totally kills the moment, but neither of us says anything. He slowly pulls away, licking the excess of me off his lips. Nana grabs her polaroid camera and we walk outside, where Brandon and Mickey are already having cliché photos taken in their front garden, in front of his preppy white porch. "I don't know Matty, maybe you should spread out on the roof of your grandma's car." Jesse jokes, and I nearly trip, which makes him laugh. "Or I will if you want."
"Shut up." I mumble, pretending to be annoyed, when really, I would pay good money to see that. Fuck, who in the right mind wouldn't? You'd have to be crazy to pass that up. Nana instructs us to stand in front of the rose bushes, but warns us to be careful of the thorns. How silly of me to make fun of Brandon and his date, when Jesse and I end up standing the same fucking way- with his arm around me. We take another where I'm kissing his cheek, and he has a rose in his mouth, and another where we're kissing. That last one tasted the best. With one final hug to us both, and one last sob, Nana hands Jesse the keys to Grandpa's old Mustang, giving him the trust of God, and she drives off in her own car.
"Shall we?" Jesse asks, holding his hand out in invitation, like the perfect gentleman. I smile, and link my arm with his. "We shall."
