I arrived at work unenthused. I just hope no one notices. I turned the corner and saw Nona standing there talking to her nurse. I wonder what that's all about. Walking by I couldn't help but smile at her but that must've been some signal of an invitation because soon after that, she knocked on my office door. "Come in." I said. She sat down and looked rather joyful. "Well, what made you so happy Ms. Nona?" I grinned. She rolled her beautiful cinnamon brown eyes and snickered. "What you told me yesterday kept replaying in my mind." She said. "Oh, really? Are you gonna do anything with that information or smile all day thinking about it?" I joked.
She rolled her eyes again and smacked her lips. "Whatever." She laughed. "I plan on taking steps to love myself. Look." She took a small notepad out of her bra.Surprised and amused I asked, "Uh, so this how we deliver shit to the doctor?" She gave me that 'boy bye' look and said, "You got jokes doc. You're actually funny. But seriously look at what I made." She showed me a list of things she wants to love about herself. "This is nice. I'm glad you know what to focus on and with my help you will get there!" I said.
She was smiling from ear to ear but then it got faint as we locked eyes. She began leaning in and damn she is gorgeous but I couldn't take it there. I'm supposed to be professional and I could lose everything if something went down between us. She kept leaning in, shit! "What's wrong with your eyes? Have you been crying? They're puffy as hell." She said still close to my face. "Well if you'd back up, maybe my eyes could get a little air." I replied. "Oh, sorry. What happened tho?" I could hear concern in her voice. "Wait aren't I the Dr.? Thank you Nona but I am fine. I just didn't get enough sleep last night."
She didn't look convinced at all. "Right..." She nodded. "Um thank you for visiting me and showing me your progress! It's what I live for!" She just looked perplexed. "You're welcome and thank you Dr. X. Will there be a group session today? I'm ready this time! " She said. "No need to thank me and no, not today. We have group sessions every other day. It gives you some time to ponder on what the last one was about but aye, look at what you made! You've been doing a lot of thinking and it's in the right direction. I'm proud of you." I placed my hand on top of hers.
She gave me one last smile before leaving my office. I have got to get a grip. I can't show her any emotions from me. I couldn't help but think how different she is from the others. I want to remain perfect in her eyes. I thought to myself.
