Chapter 15
I woke up, a smile still plastered to my face. After I had won, I received an orange envelopewith information on Nationals, and where it is. We're not allowed to open it until today though. I smiled, this was going to be the greatest summer ever.
I hopped out of bed and stepped into the bathroom. I laughed at my appearance, hair sticking everywhere and chapped lips. If my skin were green, I could pass for a zombie!
I stipped down and hopped in the shower, knowing today was going to be eventful and exciting. After all, it's when we also learn where nationals is. I already know it won't be here in Virginia Beach because it was here last year, but oh well.
When I got out of the shower, I my new bathing suit, a hot pink tan-kini and a gray with orange yellow and pink neon stripes. It was so hot, and I had to wear it today! Along with it I grabbed a pair of white denim shorts and threm them on.
I dried my hair half-way and put it up in a messy bun, leaving my side bangs out to hang. They were naturally curly so I let them be. I slipped on my hot pink flip flops and went downstairs, into the kitchen.
"Morning mom!" I sang. She laughed and mocked me, greeting me as well. I made myself a bowl of cereal and ate it quickly, knowing I should get to Jake and Bray's house soon. It was Monday and we always spend our Mondays together. Always!
"Bye mom!" I hopped up and ran down the back porch steps after grabbing $20 and my phone. Can't go anywhere without my phone, was the lesson I learned in sixth grade when I left my phone in my locker over Thanksgiving Break. I had about 30 messages and 10 missed calls. Oops!
I walked right through the side door and into the kitchen, where I spotted a note. It was from Derek and read,
Boys (And Olivia),
Have fun today, sorry I had to go on a business trip. I'll be back by Saturday morning. No parties, no alchohol, Olivia's mom will keep an eye on you. There is $200 in cash in the usual spot. Use it wisely. And congratulations! Jake; you are allowed to go in the water on Wednesday. Good-bye, adios!
-Derek
Wow. How thoughtful of him! Please note extreme sarcasm. I rolled my eyes and went up to the boys' room to wake them up, but to my surprise they were already up - and half naked. They were both in their boxers and shirtless. I groaned of torture when I saw this. They both just laughed."Get dressed so we can go," I mumbled and walked out.
Within 5 minutes the boys were down in the kitchen with me, fully clothed this time. I smiled and tossed them both an apple and a granola bar. They ate them as we walked to our destination. More than once I took a bite out of Jake's apple, but hey, I was still hungry! He just laughed every time anyways.
"You guys both have your phones, right?" They mumbled their 'yes' because they were being busied with their food. I rolled my eyes, they're such boys.
We walked up to the rec. center and walked up to the doors. I never got the way it worked but it was always closed on Mondays. Luckily, the three of us work there, so we're allowed to go in, even during closed hours.
I reached for the key in my back pocket when I realized I forgot it. I groaned, and Bray smirked. He whipped out his key and opened the door, "Ladies first!" I went to go in when he pointed to Jake and I busted up laughing.
Jake muttered some incoherent things but walked in, nevertheless. Behind me, Braydon locked the door. I walked into the girls' locker room while the boys in the boys' locker room.
I put my shorts, money, and cell phone into my usual locker and locked it. I walked out into the pool room. The boys weren't in there yet, score! I ran over to the diving board with the need to perfect my front-tuck dive. I just had to do it!
I climbed up the high dive and stayed at the edge. I took my running start and pushed myself forward and into a front-tuck. I straightened out and ended in a graceful dive into the 12' deep end. I smiled and resurfaced.
I heard and applause and turned around to see Braydon clapping for me. Jake was standing there looking confused. i never told jake i could dive, only Bray knew. Luckily, Bray saved me.
"I never knew you could dive, especially like that!" He exclaimed. I laughed and got out. Avoided awkward conversation, check.
I didn't like to talk about how I learned to dive because my father had taught me. I honestly hate him with every ounce of my soul and being, so I don't want to get into this conversatioin right now, when I'm so happy.
We swam around and splashed each other and had a good time, it was really fun to have the entire pool to yourself. We were having a splash fight when we heard the pool door oped. I looked over to see two faces that I never want to see again.
Jake was sitting on the edge of the pool with only his feet in the water. He must've noticed me tensing up because he sneered at them, "What are you two doing here?"
The two just stood there awkwardly, not able to get their brains fuctioning properly. It was probably part of the fact that Jake's tone was icey cold and that if looks could kill, Braydon's glare would've already killed them twice now.
I cleared my throat causing everyone to look at me. I crossed my arms and put on an expectant expression, "Well?"
Dale and Matthew both took a breath and took a step closer, and looked as if they were about to starrt a speech or something. I looked directly at the two and stated simply, "This better not be a waste of my time."
