~CHAPTER ONE~
Braydon and Jake were great, they treated me like one of the guys. Which I liked. Because I am most definitely not a girly girl or anything. My favorite color? Green. Or black. I can't stand pink.
I know what you're probably wondering; isn't your surf board pink? Well, yes and no. It's pretty much all neon green except for one neon pink and orange stripe down the middle. Totally sick.
Now you could say BJO, the name that Bray, Jake, and I (Olivia) made up for ourselves, has a "bromance". Like whenever I win an all girls surf competition they'll give me a quick peck on the cheek, but I've never thought much of them. After all, they're nicknames are idiot 1 and 2, right? I thought so.
Matthew Blunt was a fairly good surfer, but he hasn't been doing so good this summer. I felt bad for the guy; he was constantly being ranked in last place even when he had a fair run. Matthew was my next-door neighbor, as were Jake and Braydon.
Jake and Braydon are cousins and Braydon's mother died after giving birth to him, and his father is in prison. He murdered a 17 year old girl because "she looked too much like his wife" when Braydon was 7. The judge ordered Braydon to be taken under by Susan and Mark, Jake's parents.
As for me, my parents, Jennine and Derek Montgomery, were getting a divorce. My dad would always go out to the bars and come back at 4AM with lipstick stains covering the collar of his shirt. Way to be discreet, father. And my mom is a hard worker, and she takes good care of Hallie, my little sister and I, unlike Derek. I can't even stand to call him dad or my father anymore. It hurts too much.
But, I'm getting off topic. I mentioned Matthew because he was walking over towards the spot where we were all laughing like buffoons.
He walked up shyly to me, "H-hey Olivia."
Why was he nervous? Oh well, "Hey Matthew, what's up?!"
"Nothing, y-you?"
"Just got back surfing. 1st place baby! Ha-ha. Your wipeout was sick, dude."
"Hah, yeah I saw, you're so lucky you got that tubage! And yeah, it stung for a while."
I just shook my head and smiled. He returned the smile and said, "Hey do you, uh, wanna go to the bonfire tonight with me?"
I was pretty surprised at that and I could hear Idiot 1 and Idiot 2, about to burst of laughter so I said, "Sure, see ya at seven!"
He smiled then walked towards the street where his mom was waiting to pick me up.
"Dude, what the heck!? Why'd you say yes? That's grody!" Bray called out.
Jake shook his head, chuckling.
I rolled my eyes and started the walk home, and was followed by the Two Idiots.
~Later~
My clock read 6:38, and I was putting on my bright orange bikini. It was my absolute favorite bathing suit. Over top of it I put on my Abercrombie short shorts and a sort-of-see-through white tee shirt. I braided my hair in a french side braid, leaving my side bangs un-tucked, and hanging in my face. Like always. My hair was brown and thick. I had about a zillion freckles that the boys teased me about all the time. I would always simply roll my eyes at their comments. And to answer your question, yes I do roll my eyes a lot. By the time I was done it was already 6:56. I flew down the steps and put Chuck Taylor, neon green, high top Converse on.
"Livy are you going to the bonfire tonight?" My mother asked.
"Uh, yeah, Matthew asked me to go with him, and I said sure.." I was always uncomfortable talking about boys with my mom.
"Oh, he's such a nice boy! Have fun you two!" she called as I walked out the door and sat on the steps.
I checked my phone; 6:59.
"Hey, Olivia" a voice called.
I looked up and saw Matthew making his way over.
"Hey!" I called back and started waving like an idiot. He just laughed.
"You ready to go?"
Yes, sir! "Ready as I'll ever be!"
We started to make the walk down to the beach, where we could already see the grey smoke from the huge fire. It was the first Friday of summer, so we always had a huge bonfire while all the adults went as far away from the beach as possible.
All the senior graduates always get to drink at the bonfires. It's like a rite of passage or something. But they always got super drunk, and high.
But they had a roped off section for the seniors where you had to show your ID so they knew you were 18.
Stupid, I know.
The music was pumping and everyone was dancing.
Matthew held out his hand to me and i took it. We started dancing to "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction, when I saw him. Giving me a death glare.
I turned away and concentrated on dancing with Matthew, but I could feel his stare burning a hole through my neck.
All of a sudden there was an antagonizing scream and a gasp.
Then everything went silent.
