Melissa couldn't stop jumping around in the passenger seat from the excitement of meeting Patrick earlier. And that was hours ago, too.

My shift was over, calling it a day at six thirty at night. The relieve overwhelmed me and I was glad to get home and relax. My sister on the other hand, I wonder if she'll ever calm down.

"Can you not?" I said to Melissa. She stopped her little fan-girling and shot me a glare that I saw out of the corner of my eye. "Relax, please. You're making me nervous and I'm driving."

"But Patrick Kane though, Mackenzie. I finally got to meet him," she said. "And it's great to see his presence again."

"And why do you say that?" I asked, a little confused.

"He suffered a knee injury a while back," Melissa said, hinting a are-you-serious tone with me since I know nothing on what's going on in the hokey world no more. "And playoffs are around the corner, too. Do you not know how excited I am?"

I definitely see her excitement loud and clear. I basically have to listen to it all on a daily basis, no matter if it's in season or the off season. Melissa never shuts up about anything related to hockey.

Today was a very long day with everything that happened all in one day. I'm all out of energy, and Melissa is completely the opposite from me. I wish I was young like her again. My teenaged years left me with a lot of memories that were unforgettable too. Now, I don't want to get into detail about them, just wanted to point it out.

The drive out of the city felt long, longer than usual. Even inside the car, Melissa and I didn't speak another word to each other after we finished talking about Patrick and what not. The radio was then only noise happening in the car. Soft country music that I always listen to.

Finally, we arrived home. Home sweet home. I pulled the keys slowly out of the ignition to make my whole entire car fall silent. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched Melissa get out of the car quickly and hurry on inside out house, leaving me behind.

When I got out of the car, I just noticed that another car that I didn't recognize was parked next to me. At first, I was a little confused but then finally realize who it was. My mother's nurse, Jen. Her white Honda stood out against my black Ford Escape out in the driveway.

"Jen? We are back home!" I called out when I walked inside the house. I started to walk up the simple one way staircase up to the second floor. There's only three bedrooms on this floor plus a bathroom.

"Mackenzie?" Jen called out. She popped her head out of the master bedroom. Her green eyes showed how tired and stressed out she was. Even her dirty blonde hair was a little bit knotted, too.

"I'm so sorry for returning back so late, it's on me," I said, checking my phone to look at the time. Eight-thirty. "My shift went over and I didn't expect something like that to happen."

Jen nodded her head, understanding my dilemma with my job. She ran her fingers through her hair to comb out all of the knots going on. Jen made her way back into the master bedroom where my mother is currently in. I followed right behind her and sat on the edge of the bed, my gaze on what Jen was doing. She was retrieving all of her belongings she brought for today to keep her entertained and medical stuff needed for my mother.

I tried my best to not sneak a glance over at my mother, laying like she's lifeless in bed. I felt so bad for her, sick and everything. It was only months ago that she feel very ill and I felt helpless when all of that happened. This was a life changer for both Melissa and I. I don't want to lose another parent, opposed to my father dying in a car crash when I was away at college my freshman year.
