The locker room only had one light working. I thank the lord that it's the light right above my locker. I don't do well in the dark so much, especially trying to navigate through it like you're an actual blind person. Not something I like to do.
I was the only one in the room. Everyone else went home after shift ended two hours ago. I bet they're all getting ready for the party later on tonight. I'm still going, I decided to hang back at the fire house for quite some time. Nobody minded at all. I hope Ryan remembers to come back to pick me up.
The dress Melissa managed to get for me hung up in my locker right in front of me. Second guesses about going to the party ran through my mind constantly. Should I or no? I might as well, it's only one night. I hope everything will go well and nothing's going to happen that will end up bad in the end.
Carefully I took the dress off the hanger and hurried into the unisex bathrooms with shoes and my makeup back in the other hand. The automatic lights turned on when I entered, spreading out the light through the whole entire spacious room almost like a spotlight but only bigger.
The dress seemed even more tighter than it was when I tried it on a couple of nights ago. I sighed in disgust when I looked at myself in the mirror. Just another average girl in life, I thought to myself. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.
I stood tall in front of the huge horizontal mirror just right above the sinks in the bathroom. I did nothing special with my hair, leaving it in its natural state: wavy. And my makeup, only mascara since I'm not really a fan of makeup (even though I hate my "natural beauty" so much).
"Wow, you look...great, Mackenzie."
I jumped in surprise at Ryan's voice and turned around. He stood there, hands in his pockets of his black khakis with a smile on his face. To be honest he looked great also. I never thought I would ever see with my own eyes Ryan dressed up as he is. Nice clean white shirt with the top two buttons unbuttoned and the pants I already mentioned.
My cheeked burned a bit. "Thanks," I mumbled and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "I tried. Do you think I overdid it? Like too fancy or...?"
Ryan shook his head. His eyes were still glued on me, looking me up and down repeatedly. He also bit his bottom lip a little just from looking at me.
"Come on, let's get going. Don't want to be late like we already are," I said to interrupt the awkward silence between both of us. I slipped on my silver high heels and scurried right by a dazed Ryan.
"Right," he said behind me, emphasizing the whole entire word.
I pulled the bottom of the dress down as much as I could before I got into the passenger seat of Ryan's car that he always leaves unlocked. There's going to be one day he wishes he always locks it from now on.
Out of the corner of my eye, I watched Ryan carefully. He looked at himself in the side view mirror on the drivers side just to make sure he looks "decent" enough before getting into the car.
"I volunteer to be designated driver after the party is over ," I say quickly.
Ryan put the key right into the ignition and then looked right at me, giving me a funny look and chuckled underneath his breath. It's like I said a joke and he barely thought it was funny. "What? Come on Mackenzie, don't be a party pooper. Have at least a couple of drinks. I'm not trying to encourage you to drink a lot, just have fun."
I'm not much of a drinker at all. Yeah, I drink sometimes but not a lot. And I always have to argue with Ryan about my drinking situations and he always wins it. He convinces me just to take it easy, only if I want to.
