Multiple cars of different types of models and colors drove on by like they were in a hurry to get to some place on time with time to spare. Chicago was a pretty busy place at this time of the night: late. It's a crazy view to watch from the curb.

I've been sitting there for about twnety minutes or so, wiping my red and puffy eyes every minute as tears threatened to fall down my cheeks. My headed pounded like someone was using a baseball bat to whack against my head. I closed my eyes shut and groaned at the terrible headache. I brought my knees up to my chest and hid my head. For sure someone could get a clear view up my dress but I didn't care at the moment.

I'm just a little too numb to think the right way.

Ryan was a completely different person tonight. Indeed it scared me because there was a lot of alcohol in his system when he changed all of the sudden. I wonder if he realized his mistake, sober or still drunk. He knows that a relationship isn't going to work out between us, and it never will. Once, it didn't happen and now twice. Third times a charm won't be in Ryan's favor in the future.

I wiped a few more tears away before standing up and turning around to become face to face with Patrick. Completely shocked, I took a step away from him and turned my head in a different direction so he wasn't able to look at my face.

"How did you end up finding me here?" I asked only because I thought I put distance between me and the apartment. I guess not if Patrick was able to find me.

"I put time into my search to find you. I know you didn't have anywhere much to run to since I know that son of a bitch was your ride," Patrick said, referring to Ryan. "You know I can't leave you out here alone. I saved your life and who knows what else, Mackenzie."

My cheeks grew hot and I giggled a bit. "You didn't have to come find me, you know that right?"

Patrick shrugged and shoved his hands into his pockets.

I shivered a bit as the cool wind started to blow. Goosebumps started to rise up on my arms and my bare legs. Both of my arms crossed over my chest to keep myself warm as best as I could.

"Here, take this," Patrick handed me his jacket he was wearing. He didn't seem to mind the coldness of the night as he probably cared for me more. Oddly.

"Are you..." I closed my mouth as he nodded his head, knowing exactly what I was going to ask him. I smiled a bit, saying thanks and wrapped Patrick's jacket around my shoulders not bothering to put my arms through the sleeves. I was still a little bit cold but it will do for now.

Everything all of the sudden got awkward between Patrick and I. We were still complete strangers to each other even though we have introduced ourselves awhile back. We really haven't had a decent conversation or anything.

"Um, if you want, I'll take you home right now," Patrick offered. He started to sratch the back of his neck as he became a little bit nervous.

I wanted to refuse his offer nicely and just take a cab home, but I have no money with me to pay for the fare. He's being nice, Mackenzie. Don't be rude, he basically saved your life back there, I thought.

"Sure," my head nodded and a small smile crept onto my face. "Thank you so much for the offer."

Even a smile came onto his face when I accepted his offer. To be honest, I love to see a smile on a guy's face and it's best with Patrick. I couldn't help it as my cheeks quickly started to burn from it. Hopefully, he didn't take notice of my embarrassment. I took a deep breath that he didn't, thankfully.

One of his arms wrapped around my wasit as he guided me down the sidewalk back to the apartment complex. I tensed up a bit from the feeling of Patrick's arm around me. I'm pretty sure he took notice because he pulled his arm away from me as we continued to walk on into the distance.
