Guys I'm so fucking sorry it took like a year to update this! I've been super busy trying to navigate high school and just life in general. This isn't my best chapter but I really tried. I have been working on a ton of new stories recently which has taken up much of my time. I know I should have been working on this story but, as I said, I've been having pretty bad writers block. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this shitty/short chapter!

Jonathan's POVI woke up and went to work.
I spent the whole day thinking about what was to come.
I postponed (Y/n)'s appointment to later that night when the storm would be.
I finished with my last patient, walked back to my office, and sat down in my chair.
Just let me do it! It'll be better this way!
No. If you do it you'll end up killing her.
What's so bad about that?
She's innocent, Crow. I don't take any pleasure in having that on my conscience.
Exactly! I can so let me do it!
NO! End of discussion!
Before Scarecrow could argue back there was a knock on the door.
I stood up quickly almost knocking over my chair but I grabbed it before it could hit the ground.
Nice going.
Shut it.
I turned around and leaned on the window briefly before standing up and cleared my throat.
"Come in." I said calmly.
The door opened and closed as I continued facing the window.
I heard the clinking of handcuffs as I watched the rain fall rapidly.
"This must be fun for you." I said after thunder rumbled.
Smooth.
"Not really." (Y/n) replied clearly not in the mood for jokes.
Let me do it! I'm begging you! It will solve both of our problems if I just kill her!
What problems do we have?
Well you've become all soft and shit and that effects your focus and ability to work on the toxins which effects MY job of causing fear and panic in this hell hole of a city.
I have not become soft.
You so have!
It's like arguing with a five year old.
Hey I'm technically you so you're the five year old!
Good god.
I sighed again before turning around.
(Y/n) looked awful. As if she hadn't slept at all the past couple nights.
"Have you slept?" I questioned.
"No." (Y/n) said plainly.
I was going to ask her to elaborate but I decided not to push.
I took a deep breath and sat down across from her.
We sat in silence as I every so often glanced down at my briefcase. I had never been so hesitant to test my toxin on someone before.
Suddenly a huge flash of lightning could be seen followed by a loud rumble of thunder. Then the lights went out.
Naturally (Y/n) screamed and hid her face in her knees which were pulled up to her chest.
DO IT NOW! IT'S THE PERFECT TIME!
Scarecrow was right, the fear was practically radiating off of (Y/n) so I reached down and unlocked my briefcase making a clicking noise.
I felt around and picked up my mask and my gas tanks.
I was about to put them on when I heard a timid voice.
"Jonathan?"
I froze.
That was the first time I had heard my first name in a while from someone other than Ed or Crow.
"Yeah?" I asked as Scarecrow screamed at me to spray her.
"Are...Are the lights back on?" (Y/n) asked and I could tell she was trying to stay calm but failing.
"No, not yet. They should be soon though. There's an old backup generator here they just have to get it started." I said trying to reassure her.
Jonny! Snap out of it! Just do it before the lights come back on for fucks sake! She's just one girl! What could she possibly mean to you! What could she possibly do for you?
I pondered this question.
What could she truly do for me? After all I've only known her for a short amount of time. And emotionally investing myself into any thing other than a patient/doctor relationship could put me, my cover, and the possible job offer from Ra's Al Gaul in danger.
At the same time she seems to be very troubled and in need of help and friends. She also considers me a friend and the breaking of that trust could mess her up even more. And if I do use the toxin on her, Ed would likely actually murder me.
No, Crow. I can't.
Jonny, you fucking-
I used all of my power to shut Scarecrow out as I put away my things back into my briefcase.
Just as I clicked the briefcase shut the lights flickered on.
(Y/n) slowly lifted her head and we locked eyes.
We stared at each other for sometime, gazing into each others eyes, when (Y/n) quickly looked down.
"I should probably go soon, lights out is in about 10 minutes." (Y/n) said her voice unsteady as she glanced at the clock.
"You can stay longer if you like. I honestly have nothing to do but paperwork." I confessed knowing (Y/n) truly didn't want to leave.
"Really?" (Y/n) asked looking me in the eyes again.
I nodded staring into her glistening (y/e/c) eyes.
A smile broke out on her face making me smile momentarily.
The rest of my night was spent talking with (Y/n) and working on paperwork/explaining it to her.
For the first time in ages, I felt content.
