Amber found herself not entirely in the race, her mind was racing else were as she lost her first race. She slapped the wheel in frustration when she came in third place.
"C'mon Amb you can do this. Focas on your race" She pushed herself.
She breathed out as she pull up to more racers she watched the girl who obviously didn't know what clothes were seeing how she had hardly anything on. Amber rolled her eyes in annoyance. She watched her though has her arms went in the air with a bright blue flag. Amber rested her palm on her stick shift as she rested her foot on the clutch and the gas. When the flag went down she quickly shifted her car into first and slammed on the gas. Amber was shoved back slightly from the acceleration. She shifted into second as her car picked up more speed, before shifting it again. A sharp corner was coming up fast an she had two options slow down and take a risk of losing the race or drift it and take the risk of crashing....she had only drifted her car once and almost failed.
"Go big or go home" She Smiled as she jerked the car sideways keeping the tires firm as she slid around the corner.
When the road straightened back out she straightened the car. She was at this point laughing and feeling at the top of the world.
"Yes!" She couldn't help but grin as pride filled her.
She was still in first and now she could see the finish line not far ahead of her. She was at the top of her game now, and nothing could stop her now.
When Amber crossed over the finish line she shot her fist in the air in triumph. Her heart was racing with excitement. She slowed her vehicle to a stop as she pulled off into a parking stop. Breathing out she stepped out and shut her car off shoving the keys in her pocket as she walked up to claim her prize. Darick, A man about 6'1 or so was smiling at her as he held her prize out to her. His dark brown hair was cut short almost like a buzz cut but not as short, his bright green eyes were filled with kindness. He was actually really attractive, Amber smiled as she held out her hand.
"Ya had me scared there for a while." He handed her the 650 dollar cash prize.
"You? Scared?" She playfully made a shock expression.
He chuckled "Glad you're here tonight, that drift was nice"
"I know right!" She could control her excitement.
He chuckled again "There's one more race, you going to be in it? Word is a European car is going to be in the race."
"I might" She shrugged her shoulders "I don't know if i have the gas for it. "
" The race start in a hour, go get some gas and come back. Everyone is talking about how you did in the race, and about your car"
Amber glanced over at her 1977 Chevy Camaro car. It looked beat up to other's but to her it was gorgeous. Her grandfather and her use to work on it when she was a kid and when he died he gave her the car. A tug of sadness pulled on her heart as she looked back at Darick.
"Ya i'll race"
His smile grew at her words "Great! I'll put you in"
She nodded as she turned and headed to her car, she liked how when she pulled up to these races she would be laughed at and then when she left their jaws would be on the pavement. Darick referred to her as the underdog with a hell of a bite. Amber opened her door of the car as she sat in the driver's seat she could hear her grandfather's words 'Treat the car as if it was alive' he use to joke about the car being alive. That all cars were alive.
"If only you could see it now" She smiled as she started up her vehicle.
Amber pulled into a small gas station, she pulled a fifty out of her cash money and walked inside. A small fan blew in her face, sending her black hair everywhere. Quickly taming the wild mess she walked to the sodas and grabbed a mountain dew and then went to the snacks. She stood there for a moment trying to decided exactly what she wanted. Sour airhead ropes sounded the best so she grabbed the blueberry flavor and went to the cashier. Setting everything up on the counter the man behind it began ringing everything up.
"Is this all for you today?"
"I need forty on pump-" Glancing out the window to read the pump number she looked back at the man " pump 3 please"
She handed him the fifty as he held it up to the light. When he ringed it up the total was 47.63
"Here you are." He handed her change back and Amber simply stuffed it into he pocket as she grabbed her things and thanked the man with a good day.
Sitting her drink in the cup holder she began to pump gas as she leaned against her car and opened her candy. While she waited she easily ate the entire package and threw it away just as the pump clicked, telling her it was done. Putting the nose back she shut and locked her gas cap. Amber started up her car as she pulled out the store and headed back down to the race, she looked for Darick in the mass crowd as she turned her radio on looking for a song that peeked her interest. Just as she found one she stopped Darick. Talking to the flag girl. She pulled off to the side as she locked her car with her spare key.
"Darick" She waited till he looked at her "Where do the racers line up?"
"At the last races finish line"
Amber glanced at the racers who had already parked on the starting line.
"We are racing through town?" She began to regret agreeing to this race.
"Ya a grand is to the winner"
As if what she was doing wasn't illegal enough. She sighed as she nodded and went to her vehicle again. She took a screwdriver out her car as she went to the license tag in the back.
"Can't let the cops see this or i will go to jail"
As she took her tag off she threw it in the passenger seat and hurried off to the starting line. The race was about to start in about four minutes. She took a swig of her drink before sitting it down. She groaned as she layed her head back against the head rest. She couldn't afford to get caught, part of her wanted to forfeit but their was a three hundred dollar fee for that. The flag girl walked out the the front of the cars just as Darick kneeled at her window, she rolled it down.
"Winner meets down town in an hour; see you there?" He already knew she was going to win. "Also that European car everyone is taking about is beside you."
Amber glanced over and felt her heart land in her stomach, it was knockout!
"Darick that car can't race" She looked back to find he was walking away she poked her head out the window and yelled for him.
"You'll do great!" He hollered back giving her a thumbs up.
"Fuck" She cursed loudly. As she rolled up her window and was about to back out of the starting line.
"Let's see how you do human. This race is between you and me. You win I'll leave you alone; but if I win you're mine" Knockout's voice came in through the radio before it went silent.
She swallowed as she glanced over at him. She could see the flag girl raise the starting flag. Knockout gunned his engine, causing Amber's skin to pepple up. Either from the sound of it or from the fear....or both. She couldn't decided, and really didn't have the time to. Because down went that flag and Amber once again jerked her car forward as she slammed on the gas so hard she thought it would go through the floorboard.
