an hour later, tyler slowed the car to a stop as the light turned yellow, then red. jenna had always been terrified of tyler's driving, especially when she had somewhere important to go.

"i need you to be with your lady doctor for an hour or so," tyler said.

jenna stared at him, confused. "why?"

"you're getting a gift for yourself today, so i'll cross my gift to you off the list, too."

"trust me, it'll take longer than an hour for me to finish," she said airily, hinting at a darker undertone.

her doctor usually talked her ear off for two hours before they even discussed her health. even though today was a follow-up to last week's appointment, and, in theory, nothing new had happened in the last week, jenna could tell that today was going to be a long one.

"well, after that, i was thinking chipotle," tyler hummed, accelerating again and driving past a bunch of car dealerships. "you won't have to take that dizzy medicine again, will you?"

"god, i hope not. today should just be a checkup."

tyler nodded, "just a checkup."
