I slowly opened my eyes, and sat up. I was in the last place I remember seeing before blacking out. The back of the airport. When I rubbed my eyes, and cleared my throat all the police officers rushed over to me. The women kindly gave me water and a bag of popcorn.
I smiled at her, "W-what happened to me?" The man next to Tim spoke up, "We think you may have passed out due to shock based on the overwhelming news you had just heard." I started thinking...Missing... I'm missing... I am a missing person in America.
"Do you want us to give you details now Alexandra?" Tim asked gently, I immediately nodded. I needed to know what was happening. Who I was.
Tim cleared his throat, "Alexandra, a missing person report was filed on December 3rd, 1997. You would have been a year and six months old. The report was filed by an anonymous women in Virginia claiming to be a close relative of yours.."
"Aunt Karen..." I said speechlessly.
"So you know her? Good. Okay, well the report said you were kidnapped by your mentally insane uncle because he was mad that your mother had only left custody to you Aunt."
I gasped, "so all those stories he told me about my mother wanting to separate me and my brother... were lies?"
I burst into tears, all the abuse I had suffered, all the long sleepless night wondering where my family was, or who I was, was actually not what my life was supposed to be like?
The women officer nodded and frowned.
"Luckily, your brother is safe and happy living with your Aunt. But Alexandra, you should know that your last name is not legally Brown, it is Dallas. And if you choose, we can only contact you aunt with your consent, because now you are technically an adult."
I tried to catch my breath, all the information was coming too fast, I didn't know what to say, I couldn't even move. I could meet my brother? The only person left on this earth who I actually share DNA with. Did I want that? Did I have a choice?
After many minutes of silence, I was abruptly interrupted from my thoughts. "Alexandra, we have deleted your missing persons report, and police are on their way to arrest your uncle for kidnaping." Tim was calm in his tone and made sure to pronounce all his words clearly. It annoyed me.
"He-he's not my uncle..." I whispered back, "he's a monster." I ran to the small sink in the corner of the room, grabbed a wet paper towel, and wiped it across my cheek. They all gasped in unison when they saw them. I could tell by the look on their faces they knew, they knew it was him who left these scars and bruises.
Tim immediately stood up and mumbled something into his walkie-talkie. He took a step closer to me, but before he started to speak, I cut him off;
"I want to see my brother."
