The plane ride was torchorously long, the excitement and fear were the worst mix of bitter emotions I could have asked for. Do you know that feeling you get when you have to pee so bad nothing else matters? That was what it felt like, except the only way of fixing the feeling wasn't by going to the ladies room, it was the wheels of this plane hitting the runway in sunny California.
I carefully stepped off the plane, and was automatically swallowed whole by the stiff humidity of the lovely state. It froze me in my place for a second, until I heard the bustling of irritated passengers behind me. I rolled my bag, and I walked down the long hallway ramp, up the the main airport.
I had never been on a plane, or heck, even left my state of Arizona for 18 years of my life. I was still sensitive to this whole missing person subject, but the pain went unnoticed. I mean I had undergone so much physical abuse from that bastard of an uncle, the emotional pain was a nice break.
When I reached the end of the hall, I was standing in the middle of a ginormous airport. The walls were all glass, with small rails. Children were pressed up against them watching the planes land and take off, while their parents kept a frantic watch on them. The ceiling was mostly glass, causing rays of sun to hit my face immediately. It gave me a warm sensation throughout my entire body. I smiled, I was going to love it there.
I rolled my bag over to one of the small black seats and pulled out my phone. I tucked my feet under me, and pulled me bag close. I took out my phone, YouTube notifications flooded my screen. The last video I posted was almost one month ago, and it was still getting likes and comments. I didn't do the whole Instagram or Twitter thing. Frankly I didn't want to give Rich more ways to find my success on the internet.
I stopped in the middle of my thought, because I dint have to worry about it. I had no more worries about Rich, or my social popularity, or my success any longer. I was free.
The stupid smile on my face was quickly cleared by the whisper I heard from in front of me. "You look just like her.." her voice was hushed, and the phrase came out in the form of a gasp.
My head swung up from my phone screen. There stood a woman with so many tears streaming down her face, you'd think her child had just died. She was in casual flip flops, jeans and an aqua blouse. Her strawberry blonde hair, came down to right above her shoulders. Her hands were pressed over her mouth as she continued to sob.
Tears started to well in my eyes, probably for different reasons than this women. But as soon as she opened her grey/green eyes, I was suddenly overcome with so much emotion. "Aunt Karen..?" I asked softly, my voice quivering with hesitation.
Her head stared to bob up and down, as she practically lifted me to my feet, and gave me the truest hug I have ever gotten from another person. I hugged back just as tight, "It's me Alex, I'm here, we're together," she reassured me throughout the whole hug.
After five solid minutes, she finally let go of me, and began looking me up and down. "Wow.." She was obviously speechless, I didn't care though I was so happy to see one of the people I had been dreaming about for most of my life. "Here I am," I said with a corny smile on my face, I did a small pose as if I us showing off myself to her. She laughed, tears still brimming in her eyes, "here you are," she continued staring in awe, "well..." She wiped the remaining tears away, "shall we go? I know some people that can't wait to meet you."
I smiled and nodded, I grabbed my bag with my right hand, and started walking to the exit next to my aunt. Suddenly I grabbed her hand with my left hand. It was so unlike me, I was even taken aback my my actions. She turned her head and smiled at me, tearing up once again, and squeezed my hand comfortingly, before leading me to the car.
