Alesha jumped with fright next to Amanda in bed. A loud clap of thunder had startled her and Alesha hated thunder storms to the point where she got scared if one happened. This thunder storm was the worst one of the year so far.
Another booming clap of thunder sounded off and it was followed by a bright burst of lightning. Alesha jumped again as another crack of thunder came and this one sounded above the house she shared with her daughter, her girlfriend, Amanda and Amanda's daughters.
Hollie and Lexi, Amanda's daughters were spending the night at a friend's house so the only child that was in the house was Azura, Alesha's three year old daughter.
"Storm scaring you, love?" Amanda asked Alesha, turning in bed so she could face her girlfriend.
Alesha nodded, yes the storm was scaring her, prompting Amanda to say, "don't be scared, love. I'm going to see if Azura is asleep or if she's too terrified of the storm to sleep."
"Okay," Alesha responded as Amanda left their room to see if Azura was awake or not.
Amanda cared for Azura like she had been the one to give birth to the three year old instead of Alesha. Alesha cared for Amanda's two daughters, Lexi and Hollie, like they were her own.
Amanda came back into the bedroom she shared with Alesha with a very tired and terrified Azura on her hip. She gave Azura to Alesha and she placed her daughter in her lap and then laid down, cuddling Azura.
"Just a little bit scared, honey?" Alesha asked her daughter. Azura nodded her head so Alesha said, "you know what a wise woman told me? She said 'don't be scared' and I don't want you to be scared of the storm.
Azura laid her head on Alesha's chest and fell sound asleep in minutes. Alesha could feel that she wasn't as scared so she fell asleep, saying to Amanda, "maybe it's a little bit ridiculous for me to be scared of storms when I have you and Azura."
