Chapter 15 (Continuation of Chapter 14)
“Do you know the instructions?” Chloe asked me as she opened Marissa’s large bin of makeup.
I shrugged. I know that you have the losers lick feet. “I can use some more clarification.”
“I’ll just say the rules again; you have to do your own makeup. Whoever's is the craziest wins. The losers have to do separate dares, anyone can make up the dare- but everyone has to agree that the dare is fair,” Dana explained and I nodded.
I grabbed my crazy colored lipsticks from the bag and clutched them tightly. I watched as Marissa set the timer for five minutes. As soon as we started, I was lost. I didn’t know what to do. I reached for the mascara and slowly put it on, making sure I got every visible eyelash. I realized that I wasted two whole minutes on mascara so I quickly put on eyeliner, which looked extremely crappy. That’s the point, right? Taking my bright orange lipstick, I smeared it across my face, not bothering to watch where I put it. I took some blush and put it on my forehead.
When the timer rang, I capped up the lipstick, which I put on my lips this time, and put it away. I looked around and noticed that Chloe did her makeup nicely. Dana went ballistic with the mascara and smearing it along her face. Marissa covered her entire face in bright red lipstick, managing to finish off two entire tubes of the product; they were sat on the dresser, empty.
“Marissa definitely wins,” Chloe announced.
“Yeah, I agree,” Dana nodded.
‘Yeah, she does,” I muttered. She smiled. “Now can we go wash this stuff off?”
Marissa and I walked downstairs to the half bathroom while the two other girls ran to the bathroom. I let Marissa wash her makeup off first while I leaned against the wall opposite to the toilet. “You’re going to protect me from any bad dares, right?”
She nodded. “Right.” I was silent for a few more moments.
“Did you happen to hear what Chloe did to Noah?” I questioned.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Marissa giggled.
“I’m asking, aren’t I?” I muttered as I wrung my hands together.
Once she finished, she moved over and allowed me to scrub away at the stuff on my face. "Well she asked him why he agreed to go to the gala with you but not her. And you know Noah, his answer was blunt and, well, rude. She got angry and asked why he wasn't into her. He ran upstairs but she followed him."
I sighed loudly. “Doesn’t she get the message?”
“I don’t know, but it’s getting me really angry,” Marissa stated. “I tell her all the time to leave him alone, that he isn’t interested, but she doesn’t listen.”
“Did he tell her?” I asked as I soaped my face up again.
“Yeah, like three times! I was there, I should know! He refused to be in the same room as her so I had to be the messenger,” Marissa sighed again. “She just doesn’t listen!”
“I don’t know, then. She’ll eventually figure it out,” I replied as I dried my face. I noticed that there were faint orange streaks but I couldn’t do anything to get them off, no matter how hard I scrubbed my face. Under each of my eyes was dark, too, thanks to the mascara.
“You would think rejection usually helps,” she muttered.
“Maybe it’s because she hasn’t seen him with another girl so she thinks he’s just playing hard to get,” I shrugged, earning a nod from Marissa. “Now let’s go figure out what my dare is, shall we?”
