When I got to his house 20 minutes later he was on his computer. I've been sitting on his bed for the past 5 waiting for him to finish whatever he's doing. A few more minutes passed until he finally turned around.
"Hello," he said in a cheery voice.
"Hello," I chuckled "What were ya doing?" I asked.
"Eh nothing, you want to go for a walk?"
"Uh sure?"
I was confused as to why he wanted to go for a walk right now. We hardly ever go on walks anymore. Not since the first day of summer. I also noticed Tristan was in a very good mood but it was a weird happy. A fake happy. I made a mental note to ask him about it when we got back because we were almost to the caves.
I was so busy thinking about everything that I hadn't realized neither of us were talking but Tristan was taking pictures. I just rolled my eyes at him but he didn't stop.
Finally we reached the main entrance for the caved, we crawled down and sat on the edge of one of them.
"So what were you going to tell me?" he asked out of no where.
"Oh I went to the doctors today. They said if I keep it up I have a slim chance of being able to have kids." I smiled and he congratulated me.
"I don't like that they tell you there's a slim chance."
"I know-" I started but he cut me off.
"I mean it's not like you have cancer. You're not gonna die anytime soon. You're gonna get better." he said the last part more to himself.
I didn't look at him. I just sat and played with the dirt by my feet.
"Who knows, I might."
His head shot up.
"Well not with that attitude!"
I laughed a little and then became quiet. I knew we were both thinking the same thing. 'What are we gonna do if I get worse and die?' But we both didn't say it out loud. I'm not the type to just give on stuff like this an neither is he.
"You wanna go back and get the lights?" he asked.
I nodded and we started heading back home.
When we were younger we would play soccer out in the field till it was dark but we never wanted to stop playing so one day we found a bunch of random lights that used batteries or were on a timer. We hang them in the trees and basically make a soccer field out of them. We usually take them down during the school year an have them up over the summer but we haven't had time to do it till now.
After an hour of playing we took a break. Tristan ran to his bag and got the camera out again.
"Seriously? What's up with you and taking pictures?" I asked.
"Nothing, I just want to remember this." he said taking a picture of the field.
"You act like you're leaving and you wot ever do this again."
He smiled a little bit as he took another picture of me.
"Hey! I wasn't ready for that! I probably look terrible!" I yelled.
"No you don't, you never do," he said looking at the picture.
I rolled my eyes.
"At least let me take some pictures of you," I said reaching for the camera.
He didn't give it to me right away but eventually he gave up and handed it to me. I took a few of him and then a few of both of us together.
After we finished taking some serious and some silly pictures we looked through them. I thought I looked terrible in half of them but Tristan wouldn't let me delete them. I didn't see why he had to keep ALL of them but I bet he has his reasons.
I went home after that letting him know I would see him on the fourth of July.
