Werewolf Coven.
Chapter 2
I dragged my feet as I walked downstairs and into the kitchen area. The house was fairly simple; downstairs was the lounge room, games room, theatre room, kitchen, dining room, laundry and a bathroom. Upstairs contained several bedrooms and two bathrooms.
I sat down at the dining table which was set next to the kitchen. The only thing separating the dining room from the kitchen was a counter top which had stools set alongside. The kitchen looked newly renovated and held shiny marble counter tops. There was a four burner stove and oven set underneath with a range hood over top and cabinets both above the counter and below. There was a large fridge and freezer which was probably stocked with every food under the sun.
It was almost three o’clock in the afternoon. Suzanne set a cup of hot chocolate on the counter top and motioned for me to go over and sit beside her at the counter. Standing up from the dining room table, I sat down in the chair beside hers, fiddling nervously with my fingers.
“The first thing I want to talk to you about is school,” she began. I looked up at her face, noticing just how serious she was about the subject. “Now I don’t expect you to start school today, or even tomorrow for that matter, but come Monday morning, you will have to go with the other children, how old are you?”
“Seventeen,” I replied numbly.
“I thought so,” she mused.
“I’m not trying to sound rude Suzanne, I just wondered; why are you helping me? Why are you being so nice?” I asked the words that had been circling my mind since the moment I had met the nice lady.
“I like you Rhylee and I know we have just met but already I am seeing you as a child of mine,” she touched my arm with motherly affection. I wanted to burst into tears right then and there, but held then back with everything I had in me. “Now, I have rules in my house,” she continued her speech. “You will be required to do chores. You must attend school and you will have a curfew. If any of the rules are broken, there will be consequences. Are we clear?”
I nodded my head in understanding, not liking the direction of the conversation. I half expected her to throw me out and declare that it had all been some cruel joke and that she didn’t really want me at her house. I looked up into her face to see the soft expression that was there.
“Good, now that we have that sorted, why don’t I make you something to eat?”
--
I ate the food that Suzanne prepared eagerly, waiting for her to change her mind and laugh in my face. Even though a part of me knew that she wouldn’t do that, another more vulnerable part was expecting it.
“Who’s Camaro is that parked in the garage,” I heard an unfamiliar voice ask. I heard the footsteps walking into the kitchen but stared down at the empty plate. “Whoa. Who’s the girl?”
“Ryan, don’t be rude,” Suzanne scolded. “This is Rhylee and she is going to be living with us.”
I looked up to meet the gaze of a handsome light haired boy. He had brown hair that was messy and wore a pair of navy tracksuit pants and a white light blue polo shirt. His eyes were a silver blue and shone brightly. His smile was dazzling. He grinned cockily at me and I quickly dropped my gaze so that I wasn’t meeting his eyes.
A moment later, Ryan walked into the kitchen again only it wasn’t Ryan. They were identical so far as I could tell. He even had the same cocky grin that Ryan did. I felt a little uneasy and looked back at Suzanne for guidance.
“Rhylee, this is Luke,” Suzanne introduced me to the new boy.
“Nice to meet you,” Luke said grinning from ear to ear.
