"Who?" I asked, completely confused of what Twyla had just said.
"Sairai," She replied. She said it like "sigh-ray" and with the darkest look on her face. "She killed him."
Somehow, I knew what she was talking about. Her brother fell in love with a Succubi and the Succubi killed him. If this Sairai was trying to trick Twyla then she was in for a tough ride. And I don't just mean from Twyla.
"Who's him?" Coby asked, obviously annoyed that he didn't know anything.
"My brother," Twyla answered, "When I get down there she is going to wish she stayed in the External Ring."
"The what?" Coby asked.
She waved it away like it wasn't important. "I would rather appreciate it if Boss-boy wouldn't eavesdrop on the conversation and pretend he wasn't here." I looked at the completely white Hesekiel as he left the room stating that he would go and get some food and cursing under his breath.
"Anyway," Twyla continued, "The million Soul question is: why would she want me to go down there?"
I made a mental note to ask what "Souls" were later, but for now I just said, "Don't know."
"Maybe she wanted to, you know, make no final witnesses," Coby said.
Twyla shook her head, "No. That makes no sense. She went to me and told me that she killed him."
"Well," I said, "Maybe she thought she killed him? Maybe he's still alive."
Twyla's eyes filled with tears, "Don't you dare fill me with false hope! I don't need that!"
My chest hurt. "I'm sorry," I said apologetically, "I won't do it again."
We sat there for a moment, letting Twyla regain her composure. When she finally did, she said in her usual voice again, "So how am I getting out of here?" Like nothing ever happened.
"Well," Coby said, "I think we can get Hess to get us to the capital somehow."
I nod. "Hesekiel can get us almost anywhere. Should we call him back in here?"
Twyla smirked and said, "Of course, your Majesty."
I smiled at that, "Oh, it's been awhile since you called me that." We all laughed a bit until I remembered something.
"Wait," I said, "What time is it?"
Twyla's crimson eyes widened, "Oh!" She said, "We have to hurry!"
Coby looked lost, "Why?" Then he figured it out, "Oh, yeah. Forgot."
"Alright," Twyla said a bit more serious, "Coby get me some water and a towel. We need to be alone in a dark room. Go get Hesekiel to let us borrow one. This is going to take awhile."
When everything got set up, Twyla and I went into the dark room Hesekiel gave, (or rather we stole,) to us.
"Alright," Twyla said, "Let's begin the 'controlling process', as most people call it." I smiled a bit, but she couldn't see me, I think. "The way to control your new moon Dark Being is to know where it came from. This is the history of the Dark Being.
"The Dark Being dates back to 100,000 years ago. No one is sure where they came from, but some believe they came from the shadows of those who gave their soul to the Devil.
"Dark Beings have no soul, so they feed off of others. When they find a loose shadow or soul, they latch onto it, feeding off it. They could control them on a New moon, when the darkness was fullest.
"Finally, after hundreds of years, The Gods decided to put an end to this. They put all the Dark Beings into one tiny little container, trapping them forever.
"However, about 7,000 years ago they made a great escape using the help of the Norse God of Mischief, Loki." The air grew cold at the sound of the name. "The Gods let Loki off with a warning and a century long grounding, I believe. But the Dark Beings were loose and could cause as much havoc as they pleased. Only after 1,000 years after being free, they were put into a prison again. Instead of a literal prison, the Gods tricked them into a verbal agreement. They could only attack the very most vulnerable, or us. The Half-Demons.
"Dark Beings cannot be destroyed, but they can be controlled. This is the process: First take a deep breath. I'm going to pour some liquid into the water. You have to drink it."
"What is it?" I asked, curious.
"It's Holy Water." She replied, pouring it in the water, "Deadly to Vampirics, but healthy to all others. When it mixes with water, it can allow you to control the Dark Being, but only if you act, OK?" I nodded, "Good. Now, drink some of it, but only some. We don't want you to kill yourself."
"I thought you said it was healthy?" I asked, confused.
"Only if taken sufficiently. Anymore than the usual dose and your soul starts to melt." She gave me the water, gingerly. Unlike usual, her eyes were serious.
She doesn't mess around with Half-Demon stuff, does she? I thought as drank cautiously.
"That's enough," She said, almost shouting. I immediately took it away from my mouth. "Alright, now try to clear your head. I'm going to wring the water on your face."
"Why?"
"It helps your thoughts flow. Make you more aware."
"Aware of what?"
She sighed and mumbled something about too many questions, "Aware of your head, surroundings, and feelings."
"Feelings? Why feelings?"
She smiled a bit, "I once met a Half-Demon who was in love with someone, but didn't know it. After I cleared his mind, he started dating her. They got married in only a year."
"Wow." I was impressed.
"Yeah. I doubt that would happen to you, but you never know."
"How long have you been doing this?"
"I don't know, since I was ten, I think."
"What?!"
"Sshhh! Quiet, or Coby and Boss-boy will come in here and destroy the process."
"Why did you do this for so long?"
"Well, I ran away from the orphanage every chance I got to do this. Before my brother died, he taught me how to do this. He was the one who used to do this all the time. I used to help him a lot."
I could tell she was getting teary eyed. It hurt my chest so much I thought I might cry, too. "It's okay," I said, going over closer to her, "Coby and I are here now. We'll help you, okay?"
She nodded, "You have no idea how cheesy that sounds."
I laughed a little, "Yeah. If I'm Mr. Cheesy, then your Miss Corny."
She smiled and saluted, "Miss Corny, to the rescue!" I laughed so hard my face turned red. "Alright, alright," She said, turning serious again, "Let's get this done."
I nod as she put the wet rag on my head and I scream.
