Alex's POV

"Are you sure you are ready to go to work?" Ashton asks sitting on the barstool next to me.

"Yes, I have been here for two months now. I can't be home all day" I say drinking my cranberry juice. Ashton and Greyson have been bothering me about this whole work issue. But truth is I can't stay here and do nothing the whole day.

"Fine, just stay this week and then you can go next week" he tries to bargain.

"I said I am going to work today and nothing is going to change my mind" I say flatly.

"Just take it easy" he says leaning over and kissing my forehead. I get up and take my bag and head to the garage. I get to the office  and I find Cynthia enthusiastically waiting for me.

"Alex, I am so glad you are okay" she says hugging me. I wince at sudden physical contact. I have started to hate physical contact.

"Hey Cynthia" I say getting into my office.

"You have a meeting with the COO in 40 minutes and another one with the CFO at 2 p.m." she says with a smile.

"Thanks Cyn" I say and start typing on my macbook.

"Ok...I am going to leave" she says awkwardly. I don't respond. The day goes by really fast since I am swamped with work. It looks as if the last person was not doing much in my absence. Athena comes into my office with a baby in her arms.

"Alex, say hello to your niece Adara" Athena says excitedly.

"Uh, Athena you can't just show up without an appointment. I am busy you know" I say flatly.

"Since when do I need an appointment to see my sister?" She asks sitting down in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

"Since I started working" I say blankly.

"Nonsense, so don't you want to hold your niece?" she asks smiling.

"No" I say shortly. I see her face morph into a pained expression but she quickly replaces it with a smile.

"Ok, since when do you hate children?" She asks  seriously.

"I don't hate children. I am just busy" I say typing on my macbook.

"We both know that's not true. You are never too busy for your nephews or nieces. Alex you know you can talk to me right" she says slowly.

"Athena a lot has happened during the past months I am not the same person I used to be. No amount of talking can change that. I would like you to respect that" I sigh.

"Fine but you don't have to treat people the way you do Alex" she says hurt.

"Athena, I am not treating anyone badly. You guys just choose to be offended by how I treat you" I say tiredly.

"This was a bad idea" she says taking her bag from the floor.

"You should have made an appointment with Cynthia" I say flatly. She just looks at me angrily and leaves the office. People and their feelings. I continue with my work.

I check my phone and realise that it is 3:00 a.m and I notice a text message from Ashton.

♡Ash♡: Are you joining us for dinner?

♡Ash♡: Princess are you ok?

I quickly pack up and go to my car and start my way home. When I get there I  get something to eat when I am done I get into bed and promptly fall asleep.

I wake up to find the bed empty. I check the time and realise that it is 6:30 a.m. I take a shower and get into some formal pants and a white shirt. I find Ashton eating breakfast at the dining table.

"Hey" I say taking a seat besides him and dishing up.

"Alex I thought we agreed on taking it easy" he says seriously.

"I was a bit behind on work so I had to catch up. Athena's visit didn't help at all" I say taking a bite of my pancake.

"What do you mean Athena's visit didn't help" he asks frowning.

"She dropped by the office unannounced so that I can meet Adara. She could have just called or told me to come by her house, I wouldn't mind being there a few minutes" I sigh.

"Didn't she do you a favour by coming to your office and sparing you the trip? Aren't you glad you got to finally meet your niece?" He asks seriously.

"Well no she didn't do a me favour she shouldn't just pitch up. I was not ready to meet Adara" I say now eating strawberries.

"Alex, are you listening to yourself?" He asks surprised at what I just said.

"Yeah, I heard what I said and I ment every word. Athena didn't have to pitch up like that" I say casually.

"Ok, but I think you should apologise to her though treating Athena like that after all ber trouble."

"I didn't ask her to go through the trouble. Since when did you care about people's feelings?" I ask surprised.

"I don't, I care about you and your feelings though and you are pushing people that love you away and that concerns me" he says seriously.

"Ashton look, I'm  fine ok. Besides I don't need them."

"This has no use, but will just please try to make an effort with Athena?" He asks seriously.

"No, I won't I did nothing wrong. Besides I have been making an effort with her and I am tired of it" I say tiredly. Ashton silently stands up, mumbles something under his breath and leaves the dining area.
