My Sucky First Day

When dad left, we moved to Seoul. My mom kinda felt like eliminating all remnants of him. I learned how to adjust to city life pretty quickly. Wear a hood, keep your head down, and don't talk to anyone. I've also memorized all the alleys. Seoul was dirty, dark, and overpopulated. After the sun goes down though, the only ones out there are the gangs that terrorize late-night citizens out for walks.

I cut through another alley, trying to get to school quickly. I don't want to spend a lot of time out here. Creeps hang out in the alleys. Running into someone would be horrible. Worse case scenario, I get kidnapped. Least worse, my cute and yet still edgy outfit gets ruined.

After about another 3 minutes, I pop out of an alley right next to the school

After about another 3 minutes, I pop out of an alley right next to the school. That's actually a safety hazard, now that I think about it. I ran inside before the gloomy sky started to pour. I hate Mondays too, Clouds. Once inside, I checked in with the faculty office and got my schedule. Great, I groaned to myself, On every gloomy, rainy, tired Monday morning, I have double Life Science. I don't understand Life Science. It's not me we are studying, so why does it matter?

There was still another 30 minutes before class started, so I decided to explore the empty school. The Art Room was cool, and the computer room was nice. Library was HUGE. Millions of tattered or new books filled the shelves, and there were lots of comfy sitting areas. The Classrooms were spacious. I was shocked when I saw a piano in the music room. I used to play piano to Kwang. He even learned a few songs. I sat down and placed my fingers on the keys.

They glided over the piano, tracing the notes of a song that Kwang had made up. It was all about random little-boy things like trucks and dinosaurs. I stilled chuckled a little at a few of the lyrics. Suddenly, I remembered the song I used to play for Kwang. Jeez, It's been forever since I've even thought of that song. As I recalled the notes, I actually pressed lightly on the keys.

I almost cried, playing the song. I mumbled the words. "Please just stay tight, even when we must go....... Hold on to me, I won't leave without you......" I had to stop playing before I had an emotional breakdown. Then, a voice called. "You wrote that." There was no lilt at the end, it wasn't a question. The speaker knew I wrote the song. I turned and saw a guy leaning against the doorway.

   I nodded

I nodded. For some reason, I wasn't shocked to see someone there. Oh yeah. I'm at school. I shouldn't be shocked. Idiot! I'm so dumb. The guy just stood there, studying me. "Can I get a name?" He asked. I replied snarkily.

"Queen Of All In Ducklandia! Now bow before me." He looked confused. "Duck- what now?" I rolled my eyes. Clearly, this dude didn't know what sarcasm was. If he's gonna get to know me, he'd better get used to it.
