Lee Yuna Sang hates her life. Her mother is struggling with depression and is never home. Yuna is already coping with the loss of her little brother. Her mother transitions her from homeschool to public school, and Yuna meets some people who she wan...
I frantically searched Yoongi for an answer. "Yoongi, you can't go back to that! That's how my brother died! They could kill us!" He avoided my gaze and questions. I felt like I was losing him.
"Yoongi, answer me!"
Nothing.
I looked at my dad. "How do I know you're not lying to us?" I demanded. Also apparently mute, he pulled out his phone and opened up Kakao Talk and showed me a stream of messages.
Anonymous: We never got the money
Lee: You won't get it.
Anonymous: We know who your daughter is. Her boyfriend was a part of our gang. He helped kill ur son.
Lee: What do you want?
Anonymous: i want the $$$. Oh and tell ur daughter i want to recruit her bf again. Go die.
Lee: You're lucky Kakao Talk has moderated chat.
I would've laughed at the last text if I hadn't been so scared. Yoongi finally looked up, and I looked into his eyes, panicked. He was still silent. I had never seen him look so unsure. Did he miss gang life? Was there some kind of addicting rush of murdering people? Did he enjoy listening to screams of sadness, pain, and death?!
"Thank you, Mr. Lee. We are done here." He said. Yoongi stood up and pulled me gently towards the door. My dad popped up from the couch and blocked the exit. "Why are you taking my daughter?" He asked accusingly.
"We're going home." Yoongi said, nonchalantly. Why was my dad confused? "No, she already is home." He said.
"Listen, sir. You already gave up your rights, and you only got her back because she was sick. She's better now, and she lives with me. Now move, and let us get home." Yoongi pushed my father firmly enough to move him a few feet, and we dashed out the door. He picked me up bridal style and quickly walked home. I avoided his gaze and didn't speak until we were inside and he set me down.
"What the hell was that, Yoongi?" I yelled. He looked up, startled. "Are you going to joing the Korean Mafia again or not?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean, 'I don't know"? It's not that hard of a decision! Die or don't die!"
"There's more to it than that, Yuna! If I don't join, they could come after us! They can rob us! Burn down our house! Frame us! Kill you! They would do anything to get me back."
"We could run away! Go to America! Or Japan, Canada, anywhere!"
"Do you know how much money it costs for plane tickets that far?! And a new house?! Plus, school, jobs, not to mention our future! What if we last long enough to get married? The reception would have to be in the living room of a tiny apartment!"
That shocked me. "You're already planning a marriage...?" I said quietly, half statement half question.
"I don't know, Yuna! We might not even live that long. You could break up with me! And the way you're treating me now sure makes me not wanna marry you!" He yelled.
What.
The.
Hell.
"Do you.... Do you really feel that way, Yoongi?" I asked quietly. I was already tearing up. "I don't know, Yuna.... Everything is just so.... Complicated. I want us to just be happy, normal teens. I try to take care of you, but with the BloodRushers about to be on our tail, and your dad, J-hope..... Its so hard!"
"Maybe.... We should...." He started. I cut him off.
"Please don't say this, Yoongi!"
"Break up....?"
"No! You saw what happened to me when my mom died! I almost committed suicide because I didn't have you!"
"But you'll be safer when you are away from me."
"To hell with safety! I don't care about being safe, and warm, and fed at night! I care about fake coffee dates, and white gazebos, and you calling me your Sexy Kitten! Nothing else matters, because I'm always safe when I'm with you! The moment you leave, that's the moment I question my purpose in life!"
"Yuna, we're just kids. It's not like I'm the love of your life..."
"If we are just kids, why'd we have SEX a few days ago? If we we are just kids, why do we already live with each other, with no adults? If we're just kids, why are we running from MURDERERS?!?"
"And actually, you are the love of my life, because I've never loved anyone before! I've never felt such a strong need to be with someone, 24/7! I've never had someone go to the grocerie store, and 10 minutes later start freaking out! Not about whether or not the person is buying mochi ice cream, but if they got hit by a car, or kidnapped, or murdered!"
He was quiet for a while. Tears were streaming down my face. I walked into our room and sat on the bed. I pulled out my phone and texted V.
Yuna: Yoongi might break up w/ me. HELP?!?!
V: Why?
Yuna: classified answer
V: You need to wait it out. He really loves you, im sure he will come around.
Yuna: yeah sure. Ok thx
V: np. Byeeeeeeee
Yoongi walked into the room and pulled my phone out of my hands. He placed it on the bedside table and crawled into the bed. He pulled me coose and wrapped the blanket around us. As we snuggled, he said quietly,
"I don't know what's going to happen. Maybe they will kill us tonight. Or tomorrow. What I do know, is I won't do anything until you are ok with it. I also know we will have to be really careful from now on. But there's one thing I'm sure of, Yuna, and that's that I love you. And I always will, no matter what. You could be swearing at me for stealing your side of the blanket while mascara is running down your face, and your eating mochi ice cream. But I will always love you."
I pressed into his chest, basking in his warmth. We entangled together and fell asleep, two young teens who could die at any second, not knowing what to do, or where to go. What a beautiful, reckless love.
