Beep! Beep! Beep! I was abruptly woken by the sound of my alarm clock to get ready for school; it was an unusual morning as I didn’t remember going to sleep last night or anything after dinner. As I looked in the mirror that morning I realized I had bruises, everywhere. Great, I had bruises and I don’t remember what happened, probably something with my dad. To hide them, I put on a long sleeved t-shirt and headed off to school.
I arrived at school a little earlier than usual, and I walked into the cafeteria where they housed us until first period. I scanned the room to find someone I could sit by but there was no one. I grabbed a seat at an empty table and began to write more stories, this one was a love story that never specified genders so that people didn’t start to assume I was gay. I wasn’t sure how people would react so I never told anyone except my family, and they did not take it well. All the sudden I was awoken from my thoughts.
“Hey Nick, what are you reading?” It was Kyle.
“The Catcher and the Rye by J.D. Salinger,” I replied looking up from my book.
“That’s a good book!”
“Yeah this is my 4th time reading it,” I replied. Before our conversation could continue the bell rang letting us go to first period. “I’ll see you at lunch, Kyle.”
“Bye” he yelled from a distance as he ran up the stairs making sure to be on time to his class today.
