I wake up to someone shaking me, and saying my name gently. "Riley! Riley, please. Riley, please wake up. I need you."
That's Wesley's voice. I know my brothers voice by heart. This other voice I don't recognize, "What happened to her?"
I can feel Wesley shaking. "You are what happened to her. Riley wake up."
I moan in pain, and open my eyes to see Wesley hunched over me, crying. "Riley!!" he exclaims.
He engulfs me in a hug. We finally let go after about a minute. "You okay, Rye?"
I sit up and hold onto his arm. "I'm okay. What happened?"
Wesley glares at Emily, and then looks at me. "She's separating us."
All of a sudden, I feel like my heart is shattering. I start crying all over again.
I look up at Emily, stand up, and glare at her. "You are not taking me away from my brother!"
She shakes her head, "I'm sorry, I have no choice."
"What do you mean you don't have a choice?" I snap at her.
"Yeah, you can send us to a foster home together." Wesley states.
Emily shakes her head, and smiles sadly, as she speaks, "Unfortunately, I can't do that. There are no foster homes available to take the two of you in around this city."
I shake my head, "Send us to another city."
Emily sighs as though this is stressful, pfff... as if. She's not the one who is being separated from her brother. "I'm sorry, that won't happen."
I'm literally crying at this point. I don't understand how a woman like her has to do this to us. Sure, she's trying to help, but at the same time, she isn't helping, she's causing destruction, pain, and sadness. "I don't understand. Why not?"
She just stares at me, as if she'd break me if she said anything.
"Stop staring at me! I want answers!" I yell at her, hoping she'd understand that I'm not messing around.
"We cannot send you to a different city because our company only works in this city. Plus, we know that we can keep you guys safe." she explains.
"I want to travel to a different city. She's all the family I have left. I can't leave her." Wesley says with a lot of pain evident in his voice.
Emily shakes her head, I can see tears slightly falling down her face. "I'm sorry. You guys don't have a say in this. What done is done. You guys are separating whether you like it or not. I won't have any rude behavior. I'm only trying to help. Not start a war."
"Well, congratulations, you are starting one!! You're....." Before Wesley could finish his statement, he fell to his knees, sobbing very hard with his head in his hands.
I look up at Emily, with tears falling down my cheeks, I'm trembling with anger and fear. "You happy!? Is this what you want!?" I bend down and hug my brother, while he sobs heavily. Emily sniffs and walks away. It's about time she's left.
I feel Peyton bend down, crying as well. "I'm so sorry.. I didn't know that she'd separate you guys... She just told me she was helping..but, I didn't know she was a foster care worker."
I look at Peyton. I'm very angry at her, even though I shouldn't be. "You brought her here. You are... I don't even know... I'm so mad right now.. that..." I'm struggling to find the right words to say.
Peyton nods, "She's a handful."
I look at Peyton in shock. "Are you serious!? That's all you can say?"
