Sorry it's been forever since I've updated. I've been so busy with track and school and family junk but I'm going to try to update way more often from now on, and I know I keep promising that but this time it's for realzies!
Melanie's POV
"Hello, we are looking for Melanie Quinn, are you her?" One of the officers questions as the two of them walk across the front lawn.
"Yes I'm her." I say to the two officers as I step over top of the welcome mat and go to the top of the porch steps to meet them.
They reach the steps and the older looking of the two sticks his hand out for me to shake. "Nice to meet you, I'm Andrew Williams, detective for the Seattle State Police. I'm the one your boyfriend spoke to on the phone."
"Oh, he's not my-"
"Thanks for coming, we would like to get to the bottom of this break in as soon as possible." Harry says, once again cutting me off from telling someone that we're not dating. Does he want to be my boyfriend?
"Well then let's get down to business, I'm Detective Rudy, by the way." The other officer speaks and offers me his hand as well, however when I shake his hand he holds on a bit to long. I tug my hand out of this and put it back at my side; I glance up at him and he winks at me. What a creep.
"Okay well first off, look what they did- what they- they did to my cat." I choke out. I don't think I'll ever be able to talk about this without crying. Harry wraps his arm around my waist and holds me there as the officers look past us as we step out of the way, allowing them to see Simon still laying where I found him this morning.
I look at the officers' faces to see their expression and I am not surprised to see that both of them look shocked.
"Well, um, Rudy can you go get a bag from the car so we can take this back to the station and test it for the DNA of the intruder?"
"NO! You can't take my cat with you! I need to bury him!" I shout out as I leave Harry's embrace and jump out in front of them, shielding Si from the officers.
"Sorry Miss Quinn but we're going to have to take him in for testing. He's considered evidence." Williams tells me.
"No, please, don't do this. It's just gonna make everything harder than it already is." I beg.
"Officers is there any chance that you can let her cat here? Can't you see how much this is upsetting her?" Harry stands up for me as he reaches to pull me back to him.
"Well, I guess we could let him here but we'll have to take swabs and figure out what killed him here then."
"Please do that then, that would be greatly appreciated."
I wrap my arms around Harry as the two officers kneel down to take a look at my cat and stand on my tip toes so that I can whisper in his ear. His chocolate curls tickle my face as I whisper, "Thank you so much Harry, you have no clue how much this means to me."
I kiss his cheek as I pull myself away from him and his lips pull up into a smile. "Sure thing Mel, I would do anything to make you happy." I keep my gaze locked with his and I can't help but smile as he starts to make faces at me, puffing out his cheeks and sticking out his tongue. He pokes me in the side as I start to giggle, causing me to laugh even more.
"Harry stop! I'm supposed to be sad, my house got broken into and my cat is dead!" I feel guilty for laughing and feeling good while my cat is laying in a pool of blood mere feet from where I stand.
"Being happy isn't a crime, right now you need to be happy more than ever, it's the only way you'll ever get over this is if you smile and laugh!" Harry has a good point. I just need to move on; once I bury Si I'm going to put all this behind me and try to enjoy time here while it lasts. Detective Rudy's words inturrpt my planning.
