Chapter 1
Melanie's POV
"MELANIE KATHERINE ROSE, DO NOT MAKE ME COME UP THERE AND DRAG YOU OUT OF BED. YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!"
Ughhh. I am so not ready for today. I have come to hate first days of school unlike everyone else, but then again, the majority of people don't have five first days of school in one year.
"I'M COMING MOM, CHILL OUT!"
I glance in the mirror quickly to assess the situation. Thankfully my hair looks half decent this morning, disregarding the fact that its the color of shit. I grab my brush and yank it through my dark waves and decide to leave it at that. Curling or straightening my hair is too much work for the morning.
"Just a little mascara and we're good to go! Right Simon?"
I get no response as my cat continues laying on my chair on top of my black shi-
"OH MY GOD, GET OFF!"
Finally aroused from his cat nap, Simon hops off my chair; leaving behind my outfit for today, completely covered in white and gray hairs. Great. This is exactly what I need. I had picked out my favorite black shirt to wear with my red skinny jeans and white converse, but no! Simon had to go and get cat hair over everything!
It wouldn't be such a big a deal if picking out an outfit was as easy as opening my closet or my dresser and grabbing something cute, but I still have yet to unpack my boxes so all of my clothes are still all packed away.
"MOM! Do we have a lint roller?!" I call down from the top of the stairs, hoping I'd be able to salvage my already planned outfit.
After getting no response I wander downstairs still in my pajamas only to find a note and a bagel on the table.
Mel,
Hope you have a great fifth first day of the year! Sorry I didn't say goodbye, I was in a rush. I left some breakfast for you and there's food in the fridge for you to make your lunch. Have a good day and make some new friends!
-Mom
Wow. Typical mom move. She doesn't even care about me. The only thing that matters to her is work, work, work, and work. She spends zero time with me and probably doesn't even realize that I have no friends minus Darbie who is always there for me. Ever since she got this new job all we ever do is move, which is why today happens to be my fifth first day of school, I've already gone to school at four other schools this year. I'm never anywhere long enough to make friends or even get to unpack all my stuff. I really just wish we could settle down. But hey, maybe mom wasn't making another empty promise when she said that this would be the last move.
My phone vibrates from the counter jerking me from my thoughts. My mood immediately lightens when I see that it's Darbie calling.
"Hey Darbs, what's up?"
"Just about to head off to school as I'm assuming you are too; but I just wanted to call quick to say good luck at your new school! Oh and keep an eye out for any cute boys, I'll be expecting an update later!"
I laugh and can picture her winking on the other end of the line like she always does in person.
"Hey thanks! I'd much rather be back with you though. But don't worry, you'll get the full update later, and I'll be sure to keep a lookout for some cute boys for you!"
"Awh Mel, I really wish you were here. Senior year is not the same without you! Is there any chance you'll be coming back?"
"I highly doubt it. All my mom ever does is work and move. Like she expects me to make new friends every time we move but we're never in one place long enough for people to even learn my name! She's such a bitch, I just wanna move back home."
