Ashlyn

I was silent the entire car ride home, my face flushed and fingertips pressed to my lips from our almost kiss. I almost kissed Kyle! After arriving home, I went into autopilot, showering and putting on a clean pair of sweatpants and a tank top.

I pulled my hair into a messy bun as I walked over to my bed, plopping down and leaning back against the pillows propped against the headboard. I grabbed my laptop off my bedside table and a empty notebook and pencil from the drawer.

"OK..." I mumbled, lifting the laptop screen and setting it on my crossed legs. I waited patently for it to load and typed in my password, opening google and clicking on the search bar. I went to type in my search but hesitated. What was I thinking?! Well, it's not like it was a crazy impossible subject. I'd seen it with my own eyes. I took a deep breath and typed in "Werewolves" and pressed enter.

"Holy crap... Wait, how do I know what's right and wrong? Well, I can go off what I know..." I mumbled to myself. I grabbed my ear buds and plugged them into my laptop, putting in one ear bud as I opened a second tab for you tube, starting some music.

"Alright. Let's get started," I mumbled stretching my arms. I opened the first website, scanning the information.

"Werewolves are believed to only shift during a full moon... Wrong, I saw it in the middle of the flipping day..." I muttered, continuing to read.

"Silver is a common weapon that can be used against werewolves... Hmm..." I mumbled, writing it down in case it was true. I continued this for who knows how long, going in and out of websites, writing down information that could be useful or true.

"Ashlyn?" My mother asked quietly, opening my door. I looked up at her, pausing my music and removing my ear bud.

"Yeah mom?" I asked, closing the notebook.

"Why are you still up? It's almost midnight and you have school tomorrow!" She whispered. My eyes widened as I checked the time on my computer. Sure enough, it was 11:52 pm.

"Crap, I'm sorry! I lost track, I wasn't paying attention," I apologized, putting the notebook in my nightstand drawer and setting my computer on the nightstand.

"It's alright, but what were you doing?" She asked from the doorway.

"Homework," I responded. That was believable, right?

"Maybe I should talk to your teachers about the amount of homework you're getting," she only half joked.

"Nah, it's fine. It's not due for a while, it's just a topic I actually enjoy," I shrugged, laying down and covering up.

"Alright, good night sweetheart," she whispered, slowly closing my door.

"Night Mom," I murmured, closing my eyes. It took a bit for me to fall asleep with all the information flying around my head but around 12:30 am I was out.

~~~
I yawned as I came down the stairs, my hair pulled up in a loose ponytail with a single strand hanging along the side of my face. I was wearing blue skinny jeans with a dark gray tank top and a brownish green button up with pockets on the chest and the sleeves rolled up to just above my elbows. I also had on dark gray combat boots.
"Morning Ash, how'd you sleep?" My father asked as he stood up from the table.
"Great! Leaving already?" I asked. He nodded, giving me a quick kiss on the head.
"Yep! I have a meeting to get to, I'll see you ladies tonight!" he called, hurrying out the door. I smiled, picking up my bag from the table.
"Are you going to school? So soon?" My mom asked in surprise.
"Mhm! I need to stop by the library! I'll see you later Mom!" I called over my shoulder, closing the door and walking down the road. I glanced around before veering into the woods, hunting down a squirrel and drinking quickly.
"Uck, not as good as deer, but it'll do," I sighed, resuming my walk to school as I wiped my lips self-consciously. When I got to school, I climbed the steps to the front doors quickly. I rushed to the library, stopping by the information/checkin-out desk.
"Hello dear, what can I help you with?" The Librarian asked.
"Where are the werewolf books?" I asked, tucking my loose strand of hair behind my ear.
"Ahh, those would be in that corner," she said pointing to a far corner near at the other end of the library.
"Alright, thank you," I said walking over and crouching down. I scanned the shelves, frowning slightly.
"The fuck- oh my god, she thought- Oh lord..." I grumbled standing up and going back to the information desk.
"Excuse me, but uh, I meant scientific werewolf books," I chuckled awkwardly. The Librarian laughed.
"Oh my, I'm sorry dear. The mythology books are in the mythology section on that center shelf," she said pointing towards five rows of book shelves. I grinned and went over to the bookshelf, reading the spines of the books and nodding. I chose a fairly thick book that said "Werewolfology". Perfect!
"This one!" I said placing it on the counter.
"Alrighty, just put in your student ID number," she said nodding towards the number keypad. I quickly typed it in and she scanned the barcode, handing it to me. I opened my bag and tucked it inside, smiling at the Librarian.
"Alright, the book is due at the end of the month. Also, might I ask about your interest in "Werewolfology"?" She asked.
"It's for a... Project I'm working on," I smiled, heading towards the doors.
"Thanks again!" I called, leaving the library and heading to Art. I pulled put the book, opening to the front page and scanning through it.
"A werewolf or occasionally lycanthrope is a mythological or folkloric human with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf, either purposely or after being placed under a curse or affliction." I murmured. Woah, it seems like I might get some pretty good information from this. I put the book away and jogged to first period, not wanting to be late.
I guess I was a werewolf fanatic now.
