The first thing I think of when I get to the Capitol is my stomach. Did I think I'd be fed here? Of course not. If they found me, I'd be dead. Which, at this point, would be better than starving.I shake the thought out of my head and peer into the city. The lights are bright, even in the daylight. I can already see the train station and the people mingling near it. I think back to when I first stepped off the train and the people waved at me. I remember how shocked I was at their crazy outfits and hairstyles.
The thought brings a smile to my face and I keep it in mind as I make my way closer to the Capitol. Once I figure out where I'm going, It's easy to get closer to the City Circle. I find a small hut, similar to the one in District four, and hide behind it. People stroll around, just like I watched on the video, creating loud noises with their outfits. I roll my eyes but try to stay focused. How will I get past everybody without them noticing? There's no way I could blend in, I don't look like them. It feels like I stand behind the hut forever, thinking of what to do. The door to the hut opens suddenly, and I straing to see who comes out.
A fragile woman, skinnier than me, wobbles out, and places a "Closed" sign on the door. This is a shop? Coming from the Capitol, I expected it to be fancier. The woman hobbles away and I lose her in the crowd. I peer my head further around the corner, to see what kind of shop it is. A clothing store. How convienent.
Using what speed I think I have, a dash around the corner towards the front door. Luckily, the woman wasn't smart enough to lock it, so I'm able to get in.
The room is dim, with only a candle lighting up the whole shop. I take in my surroundings, and try to say focused on the clothing, but there's too many bright colors. I'm not one to talk about what goes together and what doesn't, but I know none of these clothing items would look good on anyone. I decide to pick something not too crazy, so no attention is brought to me. I pick out a darker blue dress, with rhinestones on it, and a pair of bright blue heels that Effie would allow me to wear. After I get the dress on, I glance at myself in the mirror. I look pretty crazy. I stare at my hair and sigh. Who knew dressing crazy would be such hard work?
I get to work tying my hair up in a high bun, adding what feels like the bottle of hairspray to it. When I decide I look a complete mess, I glance over at the makeup counter. When my prep team did my makeup, they made it look good. Should I do it like them, or something outrageous. The best way not to attract attention would be something crazy, so I paint myself in eyeshadow, mascara, lipstick, and blush.
When I'm done, I look at myself fully in the mirror. Effie would be so proud. I can already hear her voice. Prim, you look absolutely de-vine! Just as I turn to the front door, someone walks in from the back room, probably from a different entrance. I turn and start to sprint.
"Loria, is that you? I thought you left for lunch." The woman asks. "Loria?" I continue to run, but can only go so fast in my heels. The woman gasps and I clench my teeth. Almost there, almost there.
"You're not Loria.."
Almost there.
"Someone! Thief!"
So close.
"Help!"
The woman calls out again, but this time, I grab the door and pull it shut behind me. When I am outside, I wabble a little until I am lost in the crowd of people. Someone looks at me funny, because I wabbling, and then slips into a smile.
