Chapter Twenty

All of Panem knows.

Every last person in the world knows what I've done.

It didn't take long, either. We told everyone in Snow's mansion, and they told everyone they could. Everyone knows that I killed Snow.

"Prim, how are you feeling?"

I glance up, and look over at Cinna. He's sitting across from me in Katniss's room. We haven't left the Capitol yet, I'm still trying to figure things out. I take a while to answer, but when I do, a small smile appears on my face.

"I'll be okay." I say. Katniss enters the room, and motions for us to follow her. We quickly leave the room and she directs us to the hospital room. I swallow the lump in my throat and follow her in, afraid of who I'll see. She leads me in front of her, and I cringe when I see Gale sitting in front of me, two body guards holding him down.

"They've almost got his memory back." One of the men say. "He's still a little hijacked, but remembers a lot of things."  I look at Katniss again, before taking a closer step to Gale. He looks worn out, tired, and I start to cry when I realize that he's been through a lot. Ever since I saw him running away. Ever since I won, I've put everyone through a lot. He stares at me as if he doesn't know who I am.

"Gale," I start, whispering. "It's me. Prim. You remember me, right?" He tilts his head, and leans in to get a closer look at my face.

"You sound familiar. You look familiar." He says. His voice is raspy, as if it's about to die out. I glance back at Katniss, and she nods her head.

"I lived with you in district twelve. You and Katniss used to provide for us. You helped take care of me." I continue. He squints his eyes.

"District twelve," He starts. His face twists into an angry grin and he tries to stand up. Before anything can happen, the guards have him by his arms.

"Why doesn't remember me as a good person?" I ask, feeling the lump appear in my throat. One of them sighs.

"We told you, he hasn't gotten all of his memory back." The guard says, a little angry. I stare at him as he grits his teeth, and takes deep breathes.

"What does he remember?" I snap this time. Katniss steps up and puts a hand on my shoulder, but I shake it off.

"He remembers the Hunger Games and who Snow is and what the Capitol is." The guard says. I try to take a step closer, but Katniss pulls me back. "I want to talk to him." I say, trying to pry her off.

"Prim, we need to take you back to District Twelve." Cinna says, grabbing my other arm. "But, what about Gale?" I ask. They wouldn't just leave him here? He has to come home too.

"He'll be alright. They'll send him home when he's got all of his memory back." He says. I hang my jaw down and try to blink away my tears. Is he crazy?

"That could take a long time! We have to take him home now! He can be cured at home!" I cry. Cinna shakes his head.

"That wouldn't help anything. He needs to stay here." Cinna tells me. He starts to pull me out of the room, despite my crying. "But, Gale!" I continue to cry. When I'm out of the room, Cinna lets me go, and I try to run back in the room, but to no avail.

"Prim, stop." Cinna's voice is cold this time, and I step back in shock. He sighs and kneels down in front of me. "I'm sorry for snapping." I wipe a tear away.

"I just don't want to leave without him." I say through my wimpering. Cinna nods up at Katniss.

"I bet that's how she felt when you left for the games." He says. I look at her and notice that she's crying also. I turn to her and wrap my arms around her. It's hard to imagine Katniss being sad. She always seemed so strong, and sure of everything. I never could picture her crying after I left, or being hurt.

"I missed hugging you." I whisper to her. She squeezes me tighter, and I feel a smile on my face. She lets go of me, and we start to leave. "We have to get you home," Cinna says. I stop him and look at him with a frown on my face. "You're staying here, aren't you?" I ask. He slowly nods, and I continue to walk. We make it outside, and I cringe when I see that everything is still black. Buildings,  houses, everything. The bombs have caused too much damage. I stop suddenly, and Katniss and Cinna turn around when they notice I'm not following them.

"What's wrong?" Cinna asks.

"What happened to Waverly? And Beetee?" I ask. Cinna sighs and continues walking. I grab onto his arm, only to have it ripped from my clutches.

"What happened to-" I start. Cinna whirls around, causing me to be quiet.

"They fled. They left and no one knows where they are." He says. I furrow my eyebrows. "Why? Would they leave? It doesn't sound like something they would do." I say, confused. Cinna nods.

"Well I don't know exactly why, but I would've fled too if I was trying to bomb Snow's mansion and you were in there." He says. He turns around and continues walking down the seemingly endless steps.

I stand in front of district twelve, taking everything in. It doesn't seem real. After everything that's happened, it doesn't seem like I should be back home. But I am. It seems like everything's over.

Katniss comes and wraps an arm around me. I look up at her, and she smiles.

"Katniss," I start. She leans down to me, her eyes having a small twinkle in them.

"We're home."
